Best IKEA mattresses: UK range compared by firmness and price

IKEA is the Swedish home furnishing retailer that Ingvar Kamprad founded in Älmhult in 1943, and its UK mattress range starts at £60 for the 10 cm Ågotnes foam mattress. According to IKEA UK’s own company page, the first British store opened in Warrington in 1987 and the business now employs nearly 12,000 people at 21 UK stores. IKEA UK belongs to Ingka Group, the largest of the franchisees that operate IKEA stores.

IKEA mattresses in our catalogue

IKEA sells foam, sprung, pocket sprung, hybrid and natural-filled mattresses under Scandinavian model names. The table lists the eleven we have reviewed, cheapest first.

Model	Type	Depth (cm)	Our firmness rating	From
Ågotnes	Foam	10	Firm	£60
Åfjäll	Foam	12	Medium firm	£85
Vadsö	Sprung	17	Firm	£89
Vesteröy	Pocket sprung	20	Medium firm	£109
Vestmarka	Sprung	18	Firm	£129
Valevåg	Pocket sprung	24	Medium	£149
Åbygda	Foam	16	Firm	£149
Åkrehamn	Foam	20	Medium firm	£199
Vågstranda	Pocket sprung	28	Medium	£249
Ånneland	Hybrid	24	Medium firm	£449
Vatneström	Pocket sprung, natural fillings	26	Firm	£699

The “from” price is the cheapest size we recorded, a single for most models but a double for the Vestmarka and the Vatneström.

Sleep on it, guarantee and delivery

IKEA’s Sleep on it scheme gives you 365 nights to exchange a new mattress once if it turns out too firm or too soft. You take it back to a store yourself or pay a £25 collection fee, and delivery of the replacement may cost extra. Mattresses that carry IKEA’s guarantee logo have a free 10-year guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. Delivery is charged by weight, from £5 for orders up to 15 kg to £40 for a single box over 25 kg on a weekday, according to the IKEA UK delivery page.

Who IKEA suits

IKEA is the sensible choice for a spare room, a child’s bed or a tight budget, and for anyone who wants to lie on a mattress in a shop before buying. The 365-night window is as long as any trial in our catalogue, although the mattress scheme is a one-off exchange rather than a money-back trial. The cheapest models are thin: the Ågotnes is 10 cm deep and the Åfjäll 12 cm, against 26 cm for the Origin Hybrid or 25 cm for the OTTY Original Hybrid, so they are not what we would pick for an adult’s main bed. The Valevåg and the Vågstranda lead our best IKEA mattresses ranking, the Valevåg also features in best single mattresses, and the Vågstranda makes our best mattresses of 2026. The Vatneström ranks among our best firm mattresses and the Åkrehamn among the best foam mattresses.
