Firmness: Medium firm · 365-night sleep trialThe IKEA Ånneland is a 24 cm hybrid with mini pocket springs, memory foam and high-resilience foam under a washable cover.
The IKEA Ånneland is a 24 cm hybrid mattress that puts memory foam and high-resilience foam over a layer of mini pocket springs, with five comfort zones and a machine-washable cover. It is IKEA’s answer to the bed-in-a-box hybrids sold online, and this review covers the firm version. A medium firm version is listed at the same size prices.
IKEA’s Ånneland product page lists five functional layers and quotes 180 pocket springs per square metre.
| Layer | Material | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | High-resilience (cold) foam | Firm top feel with less sink-in |
| 2 | Memory foam, 50 kg/m³ | Contouring and pressure relief |
| 3 | Comfort zones | 5 zones, softer at shoulders and hips |
| 4 | Mini pocket springs | 180 per m² |
| 5 | Reinforced edge | Firmer springs around the perimeter |
| Cover | Quilted polyester | Removable, machine washable at 60°C |
Compared with the all-foam Åkrehamn, the Ånneland is 4 cm deeper, swaps the plush top layer for high-resilience foam and adds a spring unit underneath. IKEA recommends using it on a slatted bed base or a slatted mattress base, and says a roll-packed mattress needs about 72 hours to regain its full shape and comfort.
IKEA sells this version as firm. The high-resilience foam on top gives a firmer surface with less sink-in than memory foam alone, and the mini springs underneath add some give, so we list the Ånneland as medium firm, 6 out of 10 on our scale where 10 is firmest. For back pain, research supports a middle setting: a Lancet trial of 313 adults with chronic low back pain (Kovacs et al., 2003) found medium-firm mattresses produced better pain and disability outcomes than firm ones after 90 days.
The Ånneland is sold in three UK standard sizes. These are IKEA’s regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026).
| UK size | Dimensions (cm) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 90x190 | £449 |
| Double | 135x190 | £599 |
| King | 150x200 | £699 |
IKEA’s free 10-year guarantee covers the complete mattress, and the IKEA UK return policy allows one exchange within 365 nights, with a £25 fee if IKEA collects. The drawbacks are price and range. A Single costs three times as much as the Åbygda, there is no Super king, and the exchange-only trial is less generous than the refund option many online brands offer. On IKEA’s own page the Ånneland averages 3.9 out of 5 stars from 1,115 reviews.

“The IKEA Ånneland is the IKEA mattress we would choose for side and combination sleepers who want springs and memory foam in one, plus a cover that goes in the washing machine. IKEA labels this version firm, but we rate it medium firm, 6 out of 10, so expect a feel closer to the middle than the name suggests.”Go to shop →
