IKEA Vadsö Sprung Mattress reviewed

The IKEA Vadsö is the cheapest sprung mattress IKEA sells in the UK, a 17 cm firm Bonnell spring mattress at £89 for a Single and £99 for a Double. It comes in one firmness and in those two sizes only, which makes it a mattress for a spare room or a first bed rather than a shared everyday one.

Construction

The IKEA Vadsö product page lists a steel Bonnell spring unit with 166 springs per square metre in a 90x200 cm mattress, the same count as the Vestmarka. Above the springs sit a layer of stiff felt, which IKEA says keeps the mattress in shape, polyurethane foam at 33 kg per cubic metre and polyester wadding in the cover. The ticking is 70% recycled polyester and 30% viscose, the cover cannot be removed, and IKEA’s care label says to clean it with upholstery shampoo. Because the springs are linked, IKEA notes that this type “can transfer motion, meaning partners can feel your movements”.
