IKEA Valevåg Pocket Sprung Mattress

Firmness: Medium firm · 365-night sleep trialThe IKEA Vesteröy is a 20 cm pocket sprung mattress without zoning, sold in Single, Double and King for less than IKEA's zoned models.
The IKEA Vesteröy is a 20 cm pocket sprung mattress with a foam top and no comfort zones, and it costs less in every size than IKEA’s zoned Valevåg and Vågstranda. It is sold in medium firm and firm versions at the same price, in Single, Double and King only. This review covers the medium firm version.
The IKEA Vesteröy product page quotes 267 springs per square metre in a 90x200 cm mattress, slightly more than the 249 IKEA gives for the zoned Valevåg. The springs run edge to edge, so two single mattresses pushed together do not leave a dip at the join. Above them is polyurethane foam at 33 kg per cubic metre and a quilted polyester stretch cover with extra wadding, which cannot be removed or washed.

IKEA sells the Vesteröy in medium firm and firm at the same price, and without zoning the support is the same from head to foot in either version. For people with back pain, firmer is not automatically better: a Lancet trial of 313 adults (Kovacs et al., 2003) found medium-firm mattresses gave better pain and disability outcomes than firm ones, which is a reason to choose the medium firm Vesteröy over the firm one unless you know you prefer a hard surface.
IKEA marks all three sizes as a new lower price; the Double previously cost £199. These are the current regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026).
| UK size | Dimensions (cm) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Single | 90x190 | £109 |
| Double | 135x190 | £149 |
| King | 150x200 | £199 |
The complete mattress carries IKEA’s free 10-year guarantee, and the IKEA UK return policy lets you exchange it once within 365 nights, with a £25 fee if IKEA collects. Without zoning, and with no Small double or Super king, the Vesteröy is best kept for a guest room, a teenager’s room or a first flat. On IKEA’s own page it averages 4.3 out of 5 stars from 3,294 reviews.

“We recommend the IKEA Vesteröy for a guest room, a teenager's room or a first flat, where 267 springs per square metre at a low price matter more than zoning. For an everyday double bed, the zoned Valevåg is the better buy.”Go to shop →
