IKEA Valevåg Pocket Sprung Mattress

Firmness: Medium firm · 365-night sleep trialThe IKEA Vestmarka is an 18 cm firm Bonnell-sprung mattress with a thin foam and felt top, sold in Double and King.
The IKEA Vestmarka is an 18 cm open-coil mattress, built on Bonnell springs with a thin layer of foam on top, and at £129 in a Double it is one of the cheapest sprung mattresses IKEA sells in the UK. This review covers the firm version (article 104.513.08); IKEA sells a medium firm version at the same prices, in Double and King only.
According to the IKEA Vestmarka product page, the core is a single steel Bonnell spring unit with 166 springs per square metre in a 90x200 cm mattress, topped with stiff felt, polyurethane foam at 33 kg per cubic metre and polyester wadding in a quilted cover. Bonnell springs are linked to each other rather than pocketed one by one, and IKEA itself says they “can transfer motion, meaning partners can feel your movements”. The top of the cover is a blend of cotton and recycled polyester, and it cannot be removed or washed.

We rate the firm Vestmarka 7 out of 10 on our scale, where 10 is firmest. A linked Bonnell unit under a thin layer of felt, foam and wadding gives a flat, firm surface rather than contouring, and IKEA’s own warning about motion transfer makes it a better fit for one sleeper than for two. If firm sounds too much, the medium firm version costs the same.
IKEA shows the Vestmarka at a new lower price; the Double previously cost £139. These are IKEA’s current regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026).
| UK size | Dimensions (cm) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Double | 135x190 | £129 |
| King | 150x200 | £179 |
The complete mattress carries IKEA’s free 10-year guarantee, and under the IKEA UK return policy you can exchange it once within 365 nights, with a £25 fee if IKEA collects. IKEA customers rate it 3.9 out of 5 from 745 reviews, and several of the low scores say the springs can be felt through the cover. There is no Single, Small double or Super king, and without pocket springs or zoning the Vestmarka suits one sleeper or a guest room better than a couple.

“We recommend the IKEA Vestmarka to a single sleeper who wants a firm mattress for very little money, with a plain Bonnell spring unit under a thin felt and foam top. Couples and light sleepers should pay more for a pocket sprung model such as the Valevåg, whose springs are pocketed individually rather than linked.”Go to shop →
