“Judge a Dormeo by the price you actually pay and by what sits under the cover, not by the size of the saving. Choose the memory foam depth for the way you sleep, then add pocket springs only if you want more bounce.”
How the Dormeo range is built
Most Dormeo mattresses are built around Octaspring, a coil-shaped spring made of foam rather than steel. Airbus reported that an Octaspring aircraft seat cushion it co-developed won a 2017 Crystal Cabin Award and is about a third lighter than an all-foam cushion. In a mattress the springs sit in zoned layers under the comfort foam. The Octasmart Plus and Deluxe use one 9cm layer, the two Octasmart hybrids put a 5cm layer over pocket springs, the S Plus and S Plus Evolution build an Octaspring section into their adjustable foam cores, and the Octaspring 8500 and 9500 Latex stack three layers. The Octasmart Essentials and Essentials Hybrid replace the springs with Octacell foam, and they are the two ranked models Dormeo does not collect free during the trial.
Specifications, warranty years and regular prices from each model’s page at dormeo.co.uk, checked 28 September 2026. Every model is sold in single, double, king and super king, and the Octasmart Plus also as a 120x190 small double. Dormeo’s spec table gives the Octaspring 8500 as 30cm deep, its product description as 31cm. The 9500 Latex and S Plus Evolution show similar mismatches.
Memory foam depth decides the feel
Within the Octaspring models, the depth of memory foam on top changes the feel more than anything else. The Octasmart Plus has 2cm, while the Octasmart Deluxe and Octaspring 8500 have 4cm, and Dormeo grades both medium/soft. The S Plus Evolution has 3cm over its adjustable core, a centimetre more than the S Plus.
Softer is not automatically better. A systematic review of 24 controlled trials in Sleep Health (Radwan et al., 2015) found that “a mattress that is subjectively identified as a medium-firm mattress and is custom inflated (self-adjusted) is optimal for promoting sleep comfort, quality, and spinal alignment.” No Dormeo is air-adjustable, although the S Plus lets each half of its core be flipped to a softer or firmer side at home. For a firmer bed, the Octasmart Hybrid is graded medium/firm and the Firmer versions of both Essentials models use Aerocell foam, while our guide to firm mattresses covers other brands.
Read the “was” price with care
Dormeo prices move often, so compare the regular price of one model against another rather than the size of a discount. In a 2021 ruling on a Dormeo TV advert, the Advertising Standards Authority found that the Memory Classic mattress had spent 183 days of a year at its “half price” and 182 at full price, and that Dormeo sold 7,833 units at the discount against 196 at full price between January and June 2021. In the ASA’s words, “we concluded that the savings claim was misleading.” On 28 September 2026 the Octasmart Hybrid Plus was listed at roughly 60% off in every size and the S Plus at 20% off, neither with an end date. Dunelm listed the same 19cm Octasmart Deluxe at £335.30 for a double on that day, against Dormeo’s own regular £1,039.
Trial, returns and warranty small print
Every mattress ranked here comes with Dormeo’s 200-night trial. You must open the mattress within 30 days of delivery, Dormeo recommends at least 30 nights before deciding, and it collects free only models with Octaspring technology, so returning an Octasmart Essentials or Essentials Hybrid costs £45 through its courier. The warranties also run far longer than many people keep a mattress. In a National Bed Federation survey of 500 recent bed buyers in November 2021, 41% were replacing a mattress five years old or less. Dormeo’s Octasmart warranty terms turn pro rata after five years, treat a 5% to 15% loss of thickness as normal wear, set a limit of 22 stone per side and require slats no more than 7.5cm apart. Its main warranty page also states that Dormeo mattresses are not suitable for adjustable beds and are not covered on one.
