The Dormeo Octaspring 8500 is a 30cm medium-soft mattress that stacks a 4cm memory foam layer on three separate layers of Octaspring foam springs, and it is the top of Dormeo’s luxury Octaspring range. It costs £2,289 in a UK double at the time of writing (September 2026), more than four times the price of the Octasmart Plus in a single.

Three layers of foam springs

The Octaspring 8500 page on dormeo.co.uk explains what each layer does. The specification table gives 30cm, while the overview text says 31cm; we use the table figure.

Layer What it does
4cm memory foam Cushions shoulders and hips
Upper Octaspring layer, 3 zones Softer under head, shoulders and legs, firmer under the hips
Middle Octaspring layer, 5 zones More support where the body is heavier, softer where it is lighter
Octaspring foundation Firmer springs that spread weight and add stability
Superstretch cover Stretches up to 50% more than standard fabric; top section removable and washable

Octaspring is the honeycomb-shaped foam spring Dormeo builds its range around, and the technology has been used outside beds: it won the Material and Components category of the 2017 Crystal Cabin Award for aircraft seat cushions, where individual foam springs spread the passenger’s weight. Dormeo says the open structure makes the 8500 eight times more breathable than traditional memory foam, and that 8 out of 10 people in independent testing preferred Octaspring to their own bed. Dormeo does not name that test, so treat it as a manufacturer claim.

Who it suits

We score the 8500 4 out of 10 for firmness, in line with Dormeo’s medium/soft rating. Side sleepers and lighter back sleepers are the target; front sleepers are likely to sink at the hips. A softer mattress is a preference rather than a medical choice: the 2021 review of 39 studies by Caggiari et al. found medium-firm the best general choice for comfort and spinal alignment, so buyers with back pain should weigh that against the 8500’s softer feel. Only eight buyers have reviewed it on Dormeo’s site, averaging 4.1 out of 5, which is too few to lean on.

Care is part of the price of a deep foam mattress. Dormeo asks for its memory foam mattresses to be turned head to toe once a week for the first four weeks and every four weeks after that, and the built-in handles on the 8500 make that manageable. The weight limit, as on Dormeo’s other mattresses, is 22 stone per side.

Trial, warranty and delivery

The 8500 has the 200-night trial with free collection, and the Octaspring warranty covers the core for 20 years, in full for five and then on a sliding scale, once you register the mattress. Dormeo states that the mattress meets the BS 7177 and BS EN 597 fire tests. It is not delivered rolled like the Octasmart models, and Dormeo quotes 10 to 14 days.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The 8500 is Dormeo's deepest and softest Octaspring mattress, and it makes most sense for side sleepers and couples who want a thick, cushioning bed that still breathes. At more than four times the price of the Octasmart Plus in a single, it is a luxury choice rather than a value one.”
