Dormeo Octasmart Hybrid reviewed

The Dormeo Octasmart Hybrid is a 22cm medium-firm hybrid mattress with an Aerocell foam comfort layer, 5cm of zoned Octaspring foam springs and 11cm of individually wrapped pocket springs on a foam base. It costs £889 in a UK double at the time of writing (September 2026), with no discount running, and Dormeo’s reviews average 4.6 out of 5 from 498 buyers.

Construction

The Octasmart Hybrid page on dormeo.co.uk lists four layers. The deeper 11cm pocket springs, against 8cm in the Hybrid Plus, and the Aerocell foam in place of memory foam are what make this the firmer of the two Octasmart hybrids.

Who it suits

We score the Hybrid 6 out of 10 for firmness, matching Dormeo’s medium/firm rating. That suits back and front sleepers, whose hips need holding level, and the research does not support going firmer still: in a Lancet trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain (Kovacs et al., 2003), medium-firm mattresses beat firm ones on pain in bed, pain on rising and disability after 90 days. Bed Advice UK, the consumer site of the National Bed Federation, makes the same point in its mattress buying guide: you do not necessarily need a hard bed if you have a bad back. Lighter side sleepers may find the shoulder zone too firm and should compare the Hybrid Plus.

The Octasmart warranty requires slat gaps of no more than 7.5cm and is invalidated by wider ones, so check an older slatted frame before you buy.

Trial and warranty

Dormeo’s 200-night trial applies, with free collection because the mattress contains Octaspring technology. The Octasmart warranty covers the core for 18 years, fully for the first five, and Dormeo says the mattress can be 100% recycled at the end of its life. The weight limit is 22 stone per side.
