Best Dormeo mattress toppers

A Dormeo mattress topper adds a layer of Octaspring foam springs or Octacell foam to a mattress that is still sound, and the range splits into 5cm Octasmart Essentials models and 7cm Octasmart and Octaspring models. Choosing between them comes down to depth, feel (plush, medium or firmer), whether you want zoned support under the hips, and how far Dormeo's promotions have moved each model's price. This guide sets Dormeo's current toppers against those points, along with the trial, warranty and slipping questions UK buyers ask most.

Dormeo Octasmart Plus Mattress Topper

Most buyers should start with the Octasmart Plus, a 7cm medium topper that puts memory foam over three zones of Octaspring foam springs, with a double at £249 before discounts. It is the only Dormeo topper sold in a small double as well as single, double, king and super king, and it carries an 8-year warranty against 5 years on the Body Zone. Dormeo's customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 from 1,895 reviews.

Pros
  • Only Dormeo topper here in a small double
  • Three zones under a memory foam layer
  • 8-year warranty, against 5 on the Body Zone
  • 4.3/5 from 1,895 reviews on Dormeo's site
Cons
  • No corner straps, anti-slip base only
  • Guarantee is pro rata after 2 years
  • Cannot rescue a sagging mattress

Best for support

Dormeo Octaspring Body Zone Mattress Topper

For targeted support, the Octaspring Body Zone has five zones, three softer under the head, shoulders and legs and two firmer under the back and hips, in a 7cm medium topper. It scores fractionally higher than the Octasmart Plus in our assessment and costs the same, £249 for a double, yet ranks second because its warranty runs 5 years instead of 8 and there is no small double. Choose it over the Plus if firmer support under the hips matters more to you than the longer guarantee.

Pros
  • Two firmer zones under back and hips
  • Octaspring foam springs with memory foam
  • 4.3/5 from 1,720 reviews on Dormeo's site
Cons
  • 5-year warranty, against 8 on the Plus
  • Same regular price as the Plus in every size
  • No small double

Dormeo Octaspring Body Zone Cooling Mattress Topper

Hot sleepers who want zoned support should choose the Octaspring Body Zone Cooling, which puts the Body Zone's five zones under a Cool Touch cover that Dormeo says sleeps up to 40% cooler than a standard polyester cover. A double costs £349 against £249 for the standard Body Zone, and the warranty runs 8 years instead of 5. It is new to Dormeo's range, with 12 reviews averaging 4.5 out of 5 in September 2026.

Pros
  • Cool Touch cover and mesh side panels
  • Five zones, two firmer under heavier areas
  • 8-year warranty, against 5 on the Body Zone
  • All four sizes in stock (Sept 2026)
Cons
  • Costs more than the standard Body Zone

With 4,104 reviews averaging 4.2 out of 5, it has the largest customer base of any Dormeo topper.

Pros
  • Cheapest topper in Dormeo's range
  • Plush or firmer version at one price
  • 4,104 reviews on Dormeo's site
  • 8-year warranty on the core

Softest feel

Dormeo Octasmart Deluxe Mattress Topper

Side sleepers on a firm mattress are the buyers the Octasmart Deluxe suits, because it wraps memory foam Octasprings in memory foam layers above and below for the softest feel in the Octasmart range. Tom's Guide rated it 4 out of 10 for firmness in its April 2024 review and called it too soft for back and stomach sleepers. It sits below the Essentials despite a slightly higher score because its regular price is £499 for a single, so it makes sense mainly on an offer such as the half-price deal Dormeo was running on 28 September 2026. At full price the Plus gives most of the same comfort for less than half.

Pros
  • Softest Octasmart topper, medium/soft
  • Memory foam above and below the Octasprings
  • Tom's Guide rated firmness 4 out of 10
Cons
  • Too soft for back and stomach sleepers (Tom's Guide)
  • Shifts without anchor straps
  • Regular price is the highest in the Octasmart range

Firmer support

Dormeo Octasmart Mattress Topper

Back sleepers whose mattress has gone a little soft get the most from the Octasmart, the firmest 7cm Dormeo topper, with Aerocell foam instead of memory foam over three zones of Octasprings. Dormeo lists it as medium/firm, and a double costs £379 against £249 for the memory foam Plus. That price gap, not the build, is why it sits sixth.

Pros
  • Medium/firm, the firmest 7cm Dormeo topper
  • Aerocell foam surface instead of memory foam
  • Three body zones
  • 8-year warranty
Cons
  • Dearer than the Plus in every size
  • Will not soften a firm mattress
  • 4.1/5, from 440 reviews

Budget cooling

Dormeo Octasmart Essentials Cooling Mattress Topper

If heat is the problem rather than firmness, the Octasmart Essentials Cooling adds a Cool Touch cover that Dormeo says sleeps up to 40% cooler than a standard polyester cover. Underneath is the same 5cm Octacell layer as the standard Essentials, in Plush or Firmer versions, and a double costs £249. It had only 12 reviews on Dormeo's site in September 2026, so its track record is still short.

Pros
  • Cool Touch cover, up to 40% cooler per Dormeo
  • Plush or firmer version at one price
  • 8-year warranty on the core
Cons
  • Only 12 reviews on Dormeo's site so far
  • 5cm adds limited cushioning
  • Same double price as the 7cm Plus

Octaspring Pure Memory (Classic) is Dormeo's all-memory-foam Octaspring topper, 7cm deep with a medium/soft feel, a non-slip base and a removable, washable cover. It ranks last because a double costs £539, the same as the Deluxe at full price, while its warranty runs 5 years instead of 8. Buy it only if you specifically want Octasprings made entirely of memory foam.

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“Start with the Octasmart Plus and move to the Deluxe or the Octasmart only if you know you want a softer or firmer feel. Check the offer price before you pick a tier, because Dormeo's promotions can make a higher model cheaper than a lower one.”

Which Dormeo topper tier to buy

Dormeo sells its toppers in two depths. The Octasmart Essentials and Essentials Cooling are 5cm deep and use an Octacell foam layer with no springs, while the other six are 7cm deep and built around Octaspring foam springs. Bed Advice UK, the consumer site of the National Bed Federation, sets 5cm as the floor. “When shopping for a topper, aim for one that’s at least 5 cm (2 inches) deep. Anything thinner is unlikely to make a noticeable difference in comfort.” The Essentials models sit exactly on that line and the 7cm models clear it.

Price does not follow the tiers. Dormeo discounts often, and until 28 September 2026 the Deluxe was half price and the Plus £50 off, while the standard Octasmart was at full price. That put the Deluxe single below the Octasmart single. The table uses regular double prices so the models compare like for like, so check the live offer before you settle on a tier.

Feel, zoning and back pain

The Plus and Body Zone are medium, the Octasmart is medium/firm, the Deluxe and Pure Memory are medium/soft, and both Essentials models let you choose Plush Comfort (memory foam) or Firmer Support (Aerocell foam) at the same price. For back pain, the best-known evidence points to the middle of the scale. In a randomised trial of 313 adults with chronic low back pain, published in The Lancet, Kovacs and colleagues (2003) gave participants firm or medium-firm mattresses for 90 days. The medium-firm group did better on pain in bed (odds ratio 2.36), and the authors concluded that “A mattress of medium firmness improves pain and disability among patients with chronic non-specific low-back pain.” The trial covered mattresses, not toppers, but it favours starting with a medium model.

The Plus and the Octasmart have three body zones; the Body Zone has five, two firmer under the back and hips and three softer for the head, shoulders and legs. Tom’s Guide rated the Deluxe 4 out of 10 for firmness, reported that its lead tester’s hips dipped when she slept on her back, and judged it ideal for lightweight side sleepers.

Heat

A 2012 review in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology by Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno concludes that, in real-life conditions with bedding and clothing, heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces slow-wave and REM sleep. Dormeo describes the open Octaspring honeycomb on its Body Zone product page as up to 8x more breathable than traditional memory foam. The Essentials Cooling adds a Cool Touch cover that Dormeo says keeps you up to 40% cooler than a standard polyester mattress cover. Both figures are Dormeo’s own rather than an independent test. The same cover comes on the Octaspring Body Zone Cooling, ranked third here, a 7cm five-zone model with an 8-year warranty, three years more than the standard Body Zone, at £349 for a double.

Trial and warranty

Every topper here comes with Dormeo’s 200-night trial, with at least 30 nights recommended before deciding. For selected mattresses and toppers the buyer pays for the return, and Dormeo’s own courier charges £45, deducted from the refund. The 8-year warranty on the Octasmart models is pro rata, with full cover for two years, a 25% reduction in year three and a 95% reduction in year eight, and the removable cover is guaranteed for 1 year only. The same terms treat a 5% to 15% loss of thickness as normal and set a limit of 22 stone per side.

Slipping and care

Against slipping, Bed Advice UK suggests non-slip backing or elastic corner straps, and Dormeo uses the first but not the second. Tom’s Guide wrote that testers and online reviewers found the Deluxe shifted even under a fitted sheet. A fitted sheet deep enough to go over mattress and topper together is the practical fix. On washing, Dormeo’s product FAQ says most of its topper covers are dry clean only, while the Octasmart Plus page lists its cover as washable at 40°C, so check the care label.

When a topper is the wrong buy

As Bed Advice UK puts it, “A mattress topper isn’t a quick fix for a mattress that’s past its prime.” The same site notes that most mattresses begin to lose their shape and support after around 7 to 8 years. If yours is older or sags, see our Dormeo mattress comparison instead. For toppers beyond Dormeo, see our best mattress toppers ranking, the memory foam and cooling topper comparisons and the Panda and Silentnight topper rankings.

Methodology

How we rate

This comparison ranks eight of the ten mattress toppers on Dormeo’s UK topper listing and leaves out only the two clearance models, the 4cm Essence Plus and 3cm Essence Classic. Depth, layers, zones, feel and warranty come from each product page and from Dormeo’s topper warranty terms, and ratings and review counts are those on Dormeo’s topper listing. Per-size prices and stock were checked on 28 September 2026.

Each score out of 10 weights comfort 30%, support 25%, temperature 15% and value 30%. For a Dormeo topper, comfort follows depth and the foam above the Octasprings, support credits zoning and the firmer Aerocell and Octaspring layers, temperature credits the spring structure and cooling covers, and value sets the double price against depth, warranty length and review record. The Tom’s Guide review of the Deluxe informed the comfort judgements.

The order is not purely by score. The Body Zone scores fractionally higher than the Plus but ranks second, because it costs the same in every size while carrying a 5-year warranty instead of 8 and no small double. The Body Zone Cooling matches the Plus on score and ranks third, behind the standard Body Zone, because it costs more in every size. The Deluxe ranks below the Essentials because its regular single price is almost four times higher (£499 against £129). More on the brand is in our Dormeo profile.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Dormeo mattress topper?

The Octasmart Plus is the best Dormeo mattress topper for most people, a 7cm medium topper with memory foam over three zones of Octaspring foam springs and an 8-year warranty. It is also the only Dormeo topper sold in a small double, and it averaged 4.3 out of 5 from 1,895 reviews on Dormeo's site in September 2026.

What is the difference between Octasmart and Octaspring toppers?

Octaspring is Dormeo's honeycomb-shaped foam spring. The standard Octaspring toppers (Body Zone and Pure Memory) carry a 5-year warranty and the Body Zone Cooling 8 years, while the Octasmart toppers (Plus, Octasmart and Deluxe) pair Octasprings with other foams and carry 8 years. The Octasmart Essentials models use an Octacell foam layer inspired by the Octaspring, with no springs, at a lower price.

Is the Octasmart Plus worth paying more for than the Octasmart Essentials?

Yes, if your mattress needs a real change in feel, because the Octasmart Plus is 7cm deep with three body zones against the Essentials' 5cm unzoned layer. At regular prices a double costs £249 for the Plus and £169 for the Essentials.

What do Dormeo mattress topper reviews say?

Dormeo's own listing shows averages between 4.0 and 4.5 out of 5, from 4,104 reviews for the Octasmart Essentials down to 12 each for the newer Essentials Cooling and Body Zone Cooling. Tom's Guide praised the Octasmart Deluxe's pressure relief for lightweight side sleepers but criticised the shifting.

Do Dormeo mattress toppers slide around?

Dormeo toppers can slide, because they rely on an anti-slip base and have no corner straps. Tom's Guide found the Octasmart Deluxe shifted even under a fitted sheet. The practical fix is a fitted sheet deep enough to go over the mattress and the 5cm or 7cm topper together.

How long is the Dormeo topper trial, and what does a return cost?

Dormeo gives you 200 nights to try a topper and recommends sleeping on it for at least 30 nights before deciding. For selected mattresses and toppers the buyer pays for the return, and Dormeo's own courier charges £45, deducted from the refund, according to its trial terms.

How long does a Dormeo topper last?

Dormeo guarantees the core of its Octasmart toppers for 8 years and lists 5 years for the Octaspring Body Zone and Pure Memory and 8 years for the Body Zone Cooling. The Octasmart guarantee is full only for the first 2 years and then shrinks on a sliding scale to a 95% reduction in year eight, the removable cover is covered for 1 year, and the warranty terms count a 5% to 15% loss of thickness as normal.

Which Dormeo topper is best for back pain?

The Octaspring Body Zone is the Dormeo topper to try first for back pain, because its five zones put two firmer sections under the back and hips in a medium feel. The case for medium firmness comes from a Lancet trial of 313 adults, in which medium-firm mattresses beat firm ones on pain in bed and disability after 90 days. No topper fixes a mattress that sags, so check yours for dips first.
