Dormeo Octasmart Essentials Mattress Topper reviewed

The Dormeo Octasmart Essentials Mattress Topper is a 5cm topper with an Octacell comfort layer on a foam base, sold in two versions at the same price: Plush Comfort in memory foam, or Firmer Support in Aerocell foam. At £129 for a single and £169 for a double at the time of writing (September 2026), it is the cheapest topper Dormeo sells, and with 4,104 reviews averaging 4.2 out of 5 on Dormeo’s site it is the most reviewed Dormeo product we cover.

Two versions, one price

The Octasmart Essentials topper page on dormeo.co.uk describes an Octacell layer with 10,000 air channels over an Ecocell base, in a hypoallergenic cover with micro air pockets and breathable sides.

Dormeo rates the topper medium overall and suitable for front, back and side sleepers; we score it 5 out of 10, the midpoint between the two versions. Dormeo also says Octacell uses 25% less material than traditional foam production and creates no manufacturing waste.

Is 5cm enough?

Just. Bed Advice UK, the consumer site of the National Bed Federation, recommends in its topper guide that a topper should be at least 5cm (2 inches) deep, because anything thinner is unlikely to make a noticeable difference. The Essentials sits exactly on that line, so it refreshes a mattress rather than transforming it. The same guide warns that a topper is not a fix for a mattress with deep dips, and Bed Advice UK separately recommends replacing a mattress every seven years.

Dormeo’s trial page recommends at least 30 nights on a new topper before you decide, and the topper has to be unpacked within 30 days of delivery. The Firmer Support version is the better choice for a sofa bed or guest bed, where the thin mattress underneath needs support more than softness.

Trial and warranty

The topper has Dormeo’s 200-night trial, but Octasmart Essentials products are excluded from free collection, so returning it through Dormeo’s courier costs £45. The Octasmart topper warranty covers the core for eight years and the removable cover for one, but only the first two years are full cover; from year three you pay a rising share of a replacement, 45% in the fourth year. Dormeo quotes free delivery in 2 to 3 days.
