“Buy the 5cm Panda Bamboo Topper if your mattress is simply too firm, and the 7.5cm Hybrid only if you are heavier or want spring under you. Either way, order it from Panda directly, because the 30-night trial does not follow you to a retailer.”
Bamboo or Hybrid, which Panda topper to buy
The Panda Bamboo Mattress Topper is the right Panda topper for most people. Its job is to soften a mattress that feels too firm, and its 5cm of gel-infused memory foam does that for £139.95 in a UK double. The Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper costs £339.95 in the same size and adds 2.5cm of depth plus up to 2,100 micro-springs between its foam layers, which gives lift and bounce where the Bamboo topper gives a slow sink. Ideal Home’s reviewer, who slept on the Hybrid for two weeks over a firm Hypnos pocket-spring mattress, wrote that its 7.5cm depth “should suit heavier-weight sleepers who need a little more depth and support”. Expert Reviews gave the Hybrid five stars and a Best Buy in February 2026, while noting that it “costs almost the same price as a new mattress, albeit a very budget-friendly one.” In the same review, Jo Plumridge writes that the 5cm Panda topper “has been our favourite memory foam mattress topper” at Expert Reviews. Our memory foam and bamboo topper rankings set it against the rest of the UK market.

Memory foam and heat
Memory foam holds body heat, and Panda says as much in the FAQ on its Bamboo topper page, where it warns that if you “suffer from extreme night sweats or are incredibly sensitive to heat, you may find it warmer than sleeping on wool or cotton.” Warmth costs sleep. A review of sleep and the thermal environment by Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology (2012) found that heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces slow wave and REM sleep, and that normal sleep goes with a bed climate of about 32°C to 34°C. Panda puts micro gel capsules into the Bamboo topper’s HydroFoam, and gives the Hybrid open-cell BioCell foam, springs and a ventilated mesh border. Reviewers split on the 5cm topper. At TechRadar it kept one reviewer’s hot-sleeping husband cool, but a colleague found it a bit too warm. The Ideal Home and Expert Reviews testers of the Hybrid both shared a bed with a hot sleeper and reported no overheating, so if you run hot, the Hybrid or the Simba Hybrid Essential, whose springs let air move, is the safer choice. Cooler designs from other brands are in our cooling topper ranking, and every material in our best mattress toppers.
Firmness, sleeping position and a tired mattress
Panda rates both toppers medium-firm, yet reviewers describe the 5cm Bamboo topper as softer in use. TechRadar found “a lot of moulding to the body” and judged that stomach sleepers “are likely to sink too far into the mattress and lose spinal alignment”, while Ideal Home’s side-sleeping reviewer found it softened a firm hybrid mattress with “excellent pressure relief”. No topper repairs a worn mattress, though, and Panda’s own FAQ says the topper will sink into an existing dip. Trial, guarantee and where to buy
Where you buy matters more than usual. Panda’s product pages state that the 30-night trial is “only available at pandalondon.com”. Retailers can be cheaper. MattressNextDay listed the Hybrid UK single at £239 on 28 September 2026, marked as a sale against Panda’s own price of £249.95, but a topper bought there comes without Panda’s trial. Both Panda London toppers carry a 10-year guarantee and free UK delivery on orders over £30. Their cover fabric holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate SH025 177569, and OEKO-TEX states that every article with the label has been tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances. Panda also states compliance with BS 7177, the British ignition-resistance standard for mattresses and mattress pads.
