Comparison

Best Simba mattress toppers

A Simba mattress topper is a slim layer that changes how the mattress you already own feels. Inside Simba's UK range, the choice comes down to whether you want Aerocoil microsprings under the foam or foam alone, and whether the extra springs are worth the step up in price in your bed size. This comparison weighs every Simba topper on support, cooling, care and price per UK size, then sets the closest rivals from other brands beside them, so you can tell whether a Simba Hybrid topper is the right buy or whether your mattress needs something else.

Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper

The Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper is the best Simba topper for most people. Up to 1,900 Aerocoil microsprings sit between a Simbatex foam layer and a high-density base, which keeps the 6.5cm layer lively, so you rest on it rather than in a hollow.

At £349 for a double it is the dearest of Simba's three toppers, and the only one with the full spring count and the cover Simba calls plush, which is what the extra money pays for.

Pros
  • Cover Simba describes as plush
  • Springs push air up through the layer, says Simba
  • Made in the UK
Cons
  • Same 6.5cm depth as the cheaper Essential
  • Price gap to the Essential widens in a super king

Best value

Simba Hybrid Essential Mattress Topper

Spend £299 on a double and the Hybrid Essential Topper gives you Simba's spring-and-foam design without the flagship's price. It keeps the same four layers and the same medium-firm feel, with up to 1,500 Aerocoil microsprings under the Simbatex foam.

For most beds the springs it gives up against the Hybrid cost little in comfort, and you keep the saving in every UK size.

Pros
  • Same four-layer spring design for less
  • Sprung topper with micro springs
  • Same medium-firm feel as the flagship
Cons
  • Fewer springs than the Hybrid
  • Cover described as soft, not plush, by Simba
  • Costs more than the Cool Foam in every size

Simba Cool Foam Mattress Topper

Best budget pick

Simba Cool Foam Mattress Topper

For lighter sleepers on a tighter budget, the Simba Cool Foam Topper is the cheapest way into the range, at £199 for a double. There are no springs. A graphite-infused Simbatex layer sits on a contoured base whose foam peaks leave channels for air, and it earns the best temperature score of Simba's three toppers.

Heavier sleepers sink further into an all-foam layer and are better served by the Hybrid Essential's springs. If heat is your main complaint, our cooling mattress toppers comparison sets it against wool and gel options.

Pros
  • Lowest price in Simba's topper range
  • Graphite-infused Simbatex comfort layer
  • Contoured base with channels for air
Cons
  • No springs, so less bounce
  • Three layers, against the hybrids' four

Emma Original Pro Topper

Best alternative

Emma Original Pro Topper

If you are open to another brand, the Emma Original Pro Topper is the one to consider, and it scores higher than any Simba topper in our test. We used it on a mattress and on a sofa bed, and its 9cm of graphite ThermoSync foam over an HRX base gave deeper cushioning than Simba's 6.5cm while heat was never a problem.

A double costs £369. Choose it over a Simba if you want more depth and a cooler foam, and are happy to give up microsprings for it.

Pros
  • 9cm deep with its cover, against Simba's 6.5cm
  • Graphite-infused ThermoSync comfort layer
  • Non-slip base held still on a sofa bed
Cons
  • Dearer than the Simba Hybrid in a double
  • May feel soft for sleepers above about 100kg

Emma Original Topper

Best for an adjustable feel

Emma Original Topper

The Emma Original Topper is two-sided, with softer Airgocell foam on one face and firmer HRX foam on the other, so you can flip it if your first choice of feel turns out wrong. No Simba topper offers that.

At £219 in a double it sits between the Cool Foam and the Hybrid Essential on price, though it has no springs and, at 6cm, is the slimmest topper here.

Pros
  • Two sides, a softer or a firmer feel
  • Cheaper than the Hybrid Essential in every size
  • Anti-slip underside
Cons
  • At 6cm, the slimmest topper on this page
  • No graphite or other cooling layer

Best like-for-like hybrid rival

Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper

Panda's Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Topper is the closest like-for-like rival to a Simba Hybrid, with up to 2,100 micro-springs between layers of bamboo-infused memory foam in a 7.5cm, medium-firm topper. It has more springs and more depth than Simba's flagship for £339.95 in a double, but the memory foam gives a slower, more enveloping feel than Simbatex.

The weak point is the trial. Panda allows 30 nights, so you have far less time to decide than Simba's 200. Our Panda mattress toppers comparison covers it against Panda's cheaper foam model.

Pros
  • 7.5cm, a centimetre deeper than Simba's toppers
Cons
  • Only a 30-night trial
  • Cover washes only up to 30°C

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“If your mattress is sound but feels too hard, the Simba Hybrid Topper is the one we would buy, because it packs the most springs in the range into its 6.5cm. Choose the Hybrid Essential instead if the price decides it, since it keeps the same four-layer, medium-firm spring design for less.”

Should you choose springs or foam?

Two of Simba’s toppers are hybrids. The Hybrid and the Hybrid Essential put a layer of 20mm Aerocoil microsprings, up to 1,900 and up to 1,500 respectively, between Simbatex foam and a high-density foam base. The springs compress as you move, so the layer gives under the shoulder and hip and then pushes back. The Cool Foam drops the springs and rests its Simbatex layer on a contoured foam base instead, which makes it the lighter and cheaper option but also the one heavier sleepers will sink into furthest.

All three are rated medium-firm by Simba. That suits most people who want to take the edge off a hard mattress, and it matches the research: a systematic review of 24 controlled trials (Radwan et al., Sleep Health, 2015) found that mattresses rated medium-firm gave the best results for sleep comfort, quality and spinal alignment. If you want a noticeably softer bed, a 6.5cm medium-firm topper will change the feel less than a deeper one such as the 9cm Emma Original Pro, or the softer memory foam and wool layers in our best mattress toppers ranking.

Will a Simba topper fix your mattress?

Only if the mattress underneath is still in good shape. Bed Advice UK, the consumer site of the National Bed Federation, puts it plainly in its guide to buying a mattress topper: “A mattress topper isn’t a quick fix for a mattress that’s past its prime.” The same guide says a topper should be at least 5cm deep to make a noticeable difference, which every Simba topper clears at 6.5cm. On a mattress with dips, though, the topper settles into the same hollows.

Age is the other test. Bed Advice UK says sleep experts recommend replacing a mattress every seven years. If yours is older than that or visibly sagging, the money is better spent on one of the Simba mattresses we compare, which build the same Aerocoil springs into a full-depth mattress.

How much do the cooling claims matter?

Heat is worth taking seriously. A review in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology (Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno, 2012) found that in real-life conditions, with bedding, heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces slow-wave and REM sleep. Simba says its Simbatex foam has over five times the airflow of memory foam, based on Intertek tests it commissioned in May 2025 against nine memory foams. That is the maker’s own figure, so treat it as a direction rather than a measurement of your bed. The Cool Foam adds graphite to the foam, and in the hybrids Simba says the springs push air up through the layer as they compress.

Price per UK size, and where you buy

Simba sells its toppers only in the five UK sizes, so there is no 90x200 or 140x200 option, unlike some of its mattresses. The table shows regular prices at each brand’s own shop on 4 October 2026.

UK size Simba Hybrid Simba Hybrid Essential Simba Cool Foam Emma Original Pro Emma Original Panda Hybrid Bamboo
Single 90x190 £299 £249 £149 £259 £169 £249.95
Small double 120x190 £349 £299 £199 £329 £199 £319.95
Double 135x190 £349 £299 £199 £369 £219 £339.95

Super king 180x200 £499 £399 £299 £459 £269 £399.95

Where you buy matters as much as the size. Simba’s guarantee page gives 10 years automatically when you buy from simbasleep.com, while a Simba bought through one of its authorised retailers, a list that includes John Lewis, Dunelm, Argos and Bensons, starts at five years and has to be registered with Simba to reach ten.

Methodology

How we rate

This page ranks every topper Simba sells in the UK, the Hybrid, the Hybrid Essential and the Cool Foam, followed by three alternatives from other brands. Simba’s own models lead because they are what this page is about, and each group is ordered by our overall score. That is why the Emma Original Pro Topper sits fourth although it scores higher than any Simba topper.

The overall score weights comfort at 30%, support at 25%, temperature at 15% and value at 30%. On a Simba topper, support and comfort follow mainly from the spring count and what lies under the Simbatex foam, temperature from the foam and base design, and value from the price in each UK size set against the trial, guarantee and cover care. We tested the Emma Original Pro hands-on, on a mattress and on a sofa bed, and for every pick we checked the published construction, UK sizes, terms and prices.

Specifications and regular prices were read from each brand’s UK product pages on 4 October 2026. Simba’s September sale had ended on 1 October, so no Simba topper carried a discount on that date. All three Simba toppers use CertiPUR foam, a label that, according to EUROPUR’s CertiPUR consumer page, is granted after tests in independent laboratories, is valid for three years and is re-checked every year.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Simba mattress topper is best?

The Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper is the best Simba topper for most people, with up to 1,900 Aerocoil microsprings under its Simbatex foam. Choose the Hybrid Essential to save money with the same spring design, or the all-foam Cool Foam if you are a lighter sleeper on a tight budget.

What is the difference between the Simba Hybrid Topper and the Hybrid Essential Topper?

The Simba Hybrid Topper has up to 1,900 microsprings and a cover Simba calls plush, while the Hybrid Essential has up to 1,500 springs in the same four-layer, 6.5cm, medium-firm design. In a double the Hybrid costs £349 and the Essential £299.

How thick is a Simba mattress topper, and what sizes does it come in?

Every Simba topper is 6.5cm deep. All three come in the five UK sizes only, from a 90x190 single to a 180x200 super king.

Does a Simba topper sleep cool?

Simba says the Simbatex foam in all three toppers has over five times the airflow of memory foam, based on Intertek tests it commissioned in May 2025. The Cool Foam adds graphite to that foam and earns the best temperature score of the three in our rating.

Can you return a Simba mattress topper?

Yes. Toppers bought from simbasleep.com come with a 200-night trial, and if you return one within that time Simba collects it free and refunds you in full. Toppers bought through a retailer follow that retailer's returns policy.

Is the Simba guarantee shorter if you buy from a retailer?

It can be. Simba gives 10 years automatically when you buy direct, but its guarantee page says a qualifying Simba bought through an authorised retailer such as John Lewis or Dunelm starts at five years and must be registered with Simba to reach ten.

Will a Simba topper fix a sagging mattress?

No. A topper settles into the dips of a worn mattress, so it cannot restore support that has gone. A Simba topper works best on a mattress that is in good shape but feels too firm.

How do you wash a Simba mattress topper?

The top cover of every Simba topper unzips and goes in the washing machine at 40°C on a reduced spin, with no bleach, tumble dryer, iron or dry cleaning. Simba says the base fabric should only be wiped with a damp cloth.
