The Simba Cool Foam Mattress Topper is a 6.5cm, three-layer foam topper built around graphite-infused Simbatex foam and a contoured, peaked foam base that leaves air channels underneath. It has no springs, which makes it the cheapest Simba topper, from a regular £149 for a single, with a medium-firm feel we place at 6 out of 10.

What is inside the Cool Foam Topper?

Layer Material What it does
1. Cover Soft knitted cover Removes for washing at 40°C
2. Comfort Simbatex CertiPUR foam infused with graphite Cushioning that moves warmth away
3. Base Higher-density contoured CertiPUR foam, slip-limiting base and elastic straps Egg-shaped peaks let air circulate

The layers are listed on Simba’s UK product page.

How cool is it?

Simba’s headline figure is that Simbatex has over five times the airflow of memory foam. It comes from Intertek tests from May 2025, cited by Simba, on nine memory foams from the top three UK manufacturers, so read it as a manufacturer claim. The design logic is sound: open-structure foam and an air-channelled base trap less heat than dense memory foam, and heat is a real sleep problem. A review in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology (Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno, 2012) found that heat exposure with normal bedding increases wakefulness and reduces slow-wave and REM sleep.

Who should buy it?

Warm sleepers who want to soften a firm mattress, and anyone on a budget. A single costs half as much as the Hybrid Topper. You give up the Aerocoil springs, so the surface is less responsive and a heavier sleeper will sink further into it. As with any topper, it will not fix a mattress that has already sagged. It has three layers rather than the four of Simba’s spring toppers, at the same 6.5cm depth. It is sold in five UK sizes, single to super king, and the elastic straps and slip-limiting base keep it from creeping across the mattress. The cover zips off and washes at 40°C.

How does it compare with Simba’s spring toppers?

All three Simba toppers share the 6.5cm depth, the elastic straps and the 200-night trial. What the extra money buys is the spring layer, and the Cool Foam is the only one without it.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Cool Foam Topper is the one to buy if you sleep warm and want Simba quality for half the price of the Hybrid Topper. Heavier sleepers and anyone who likes a bouncy surface should pay more for a spring topper.”
