Comparison

Best Simba mattresses

Choosing the best Simba mattress comes down to three differences inside one UK range: how deep and how heavily sprung the model is, whether its comfort layer is Simbatex foam or British wool, and which UK sizes it is actually sold in. This comparison sets Simba's Hybrid and Natural Hybrid mattresses against those points, alongside independent UK reviews, so you can see what each step up the price ladder buys.

Top pick

Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress

The Simba Hybrid Pro is the model we recommend to most adults, because it adds a British wool layer, up to 4,800 springs and a steel SupportCore base to the original Hybrid's recipe. A double costs £1,299 at list price, with the same 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee as the rest of the range. TechRadar found it too firm for lighter side sleepers, who should look at the Ultra or the Apex instead.

Pros
  • British wool layer, up to 4,800 springs
  • Steel SupportCore base of up to 1,000 springs
  • Sold in seven UK and EU sizes
Cons
  • Double costs 44% more than the Hybrid
  • Too firm for light side sleepers (TechRadar)
  • Edges softer than the centre (TechRadar)

Best edge support

Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress

TechRadar scored the edge support of the Simba Hybrid Luxe 5 out of 5, which makes it the pick for anyone who sits on the side of the bed or sleeps close to the edge. Its 31cm build puts three microspring layers and a steel SupportCore base under 90% British wool and 10% bamboo, and TechRadar rated it 8/10 for firmness, firmer than Simba's plush label suggests. It outscores the Hybrid and the Essential on comfort but ranks below both because a double costs £1,799, about two and a half times the Essential.

Pros
  • Edge support 5 out of 5 (TechRadar)
  • 90% British wool, 10% bamboo layer
  • Up to 5,700 springs, three microspring layers
Cons
  • Double costs 38% more than the Pro
  • Firmer than its plush billing (TechRadar 8/10)
  • Slight central dip after a year (TechRadar)

  • Cheapest Natural Hybrid model
Cons
  • Four UK sizes, no small double or EU

Simba Natural Hybrid Escape Mattress

The Simba Natural Hybrid Escape is the foam-free Simba for sleepers who find the Source too firm, adding a second layer of 1,900 microsprings and extra wool for up to 4,800 springs in a 30cm build. A double costs £1,799, the same as a Hybrid Luxe double, and it ranks below the Source despite scoring a point higher because an Escape double costs 38% more. Like the Source it comes in four UK sizes only, and its cover does not come off.

Pros
  • Two microspring layers, up to 4,800 springs
  • No foam, British and Hampshire wool
  • Softer top than the Natural Hybrid Source
Cons
  • Double costs the same as the Luxe

Best for hot sleepers

Hot sleepers get the most from the Simba Hybrid Ultra, the only model with HeatRelease graphite fitted as standard, which by Simba's own lab figure lowers the temperature of the upper foam layer by 4.4°C. The 34cm flagship has up to 7,300 springs, and Tom's Guide put its firmness at 6.5 to 7 out of 10. It outscores the Natural Hybrid Source and Escape but sits below both here because a double costs £2,399, a third more than an Escape and nearly twice the Source.

Pros
  • HeatRelease graphite fitted as standard
  • Up to 7,300 springs, 34cm deep
  • Wool, bamboo, charcoal and kapok layer
Cons
  • Most expensive Simba in every size
  • Deepest Simba, a two-person job to rotate

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“Start with the Hybrid Pro, and pay for the Ultra only if you still sleep hot on wool. Above the Pro, each step adds weight and cost faster than it adds support.”

Start with the price of a double

Simba sits above what most UK buyers spend. The National Bed Federation’s 2026 consumer survey of 1,000 adults who bought a mattress in the past year put the mean price paid at £543 and found that almost half paid less than £400 while only 20% spent £800 or more. At list price the Hybrid Essential is the only adult Simba whose double costs less than £800, and a Hybrid Pro double costs £1,299. On 28 September 2026 Simba’s UK site was taking 25% to 30% off its adult Hybrid and Natural Hybrid mattresses, and our Simba brand page tracks the current offers.

What each step up the range adds

Every Simba in the Hybrid line puts titanium Aerocoil microsprings near the surface, and each step up adds depth, springs and a different comfort layer. The biggest structural step is from the Hybrid to the Hybrid Pro, which swaps the nine-zone foam base for a SupportCore base of up to 1,000 steel barrel springs and adds a layer of British wool. The Luxe and Ultra add a third microspring layer, the Ultra also gets a latex and coconut-fibre layer with HeatRelease graphite as standard, and the Natural Hybrid models leave foam out of the materials list altogether. The middle Natural Hybrid, the 30cm Escape, adds a second microspring layer and more wool to the Source and costs exactly what the Hybrid Luxe costs in every size both come in.

Firmness and who each model suits

Simba says it has designed all its mattresses to feel medium-firm, yet it labels the Luxe, Ultra and Apex plush on their own product pages. The clinical evidence does back a medium-firm default. In a randomised trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain published in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003), people given a medium-firm mattress had better outcomes after 90 days than those on a firm one, with an odds ratio of 2.36 for pain while lying in bed. The authors concluded that “a mattress of medium firmness improves pain and disability among patients with chronic non-specific low-back pain.” A 2015 systematic review of 24 controlled trials in Sleep Health (Radwan et al.) found a medium-firm, self-adjusted mattress optimal for sleep comfort, quality and spinal alignment.

Independent testers do not always agree with Simba’s labels. TechRadar rated the Hybrid Pro 8/10 for firmness and found it too firm for lighter side sleepers. Its Hybrid Luxe review gave the plush-labelled Luxe the same 8/10 and recommended it for back and stomach sleepers, while Tom’s Guide put the Hybrid Ultra at 6.5 to 7 out of 10. If you sleep on your side and weigh less than average, the Apex, the Escape or the Ultra is the safer choice. Back and stomach sleepers and heavier adults suit the Pro or the Luxe.

Temperature, wool and foam-free builds

Simbatex foam tops the Essential and the Hybrid, while every model from the Pro upwards adds wool. HeatRelease comes fitted on the Ultra and is a paid upgrade on the Pro and Luxe in double, king and super king only, adding £149, £199 or £249 by size. Simba’s own lab figure for it is a 4.4°C lower temperature in the upper foam layer of an Ultra with HeatRelease than without. The Natural Hybrid range was called the Earth range until its rename, as MattressNextDay notes, so older reviews list the Source, Escape and Apex under their earlier names.

Sizes, weight and care

Only the Simba Hybrid is sold in all eight UK and EU sizes. The Essential stops at king, and the Ultra and all three Natural Hybrid models come in single, double, king and super king only. Our double, king size and super king rankings compare Simba with other brands size by size.

Weight matters on the deeper models because Simba’s help centre makes regular rotation one of the few conditions of its guarantee, a 180-degree turn once a month for the first three months and every three months after that. On the 31cm Luxe or the 34cm Ultra, that is a two-person job. The boxed Hybrids are ready to sleep on six hours after unboxing. The flat-delivered Natural Hybrids come with free VIP delivery that includes installation, but their covers do not come off and Simba rules out vacuuming the wool. Simba’s product pages also state that a protector is required to keep the 10-year guarantee valid, which our mattress protectors comparison covers.

Our Emma, Nectar and OTTY rankings and the full best mattresses 2026 list cover rival brands at similar prices, and a mattress topper softens a firm Simba for far less than a new mattress.

Methodology

How we rate

This ranking compares the mattresses Simba currently sells in the UK against each other, so it answers which model in the range suits which buyer, not whether Simba beats another brand. Prices, sizes and availability were checked on Simba’s UK product pages and its live variant data on 28 September 2026. The per-size prices in the tables and rank summaries are Simba’s regular list prices, while the “from” price on each product card is the September sale price Simba was charging on that date.

Every model carries our five scores (0 to 100, shown out of 10), and the overall score weighs comfort at 30%, support at 25%, temperature at 15% and value at 30%. On a single-brand page the order also weighs the price step in a double, because a model that costs twice as much has to earn it. That is why the Hybrid Essential ranks above the higher-scoring Hybrid Luxe, the Natural Hybrid Source above the Escape, and both Natural Hybrids above the Hybrid Ultra.

The scores draw on verified specifications (depth, spring count, comfort materials, zoning and sizes), on Simba’s 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee, and on independent results, namely the firmness and edge-support measurements published by TechRadar and Tom’s Guide. Simba’s own performance figures, such as its HeatRelease cooling claim, are attributed to Simba wherever we quote them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Simba mattress is best?

The Simba Hybrid Pro is the best Simba mattress for most adults, adding a British wool layer, up to 4,800 springs and a steel SupportCore base to the original Hybrid for £1,299 in a double at list price. If your budget stops lower, the original Simba Hybrid costs £899 in a double and is the only Simba sold in all eight UK and EU sizes.

What is the difference between the Simba Hybrid and the Hybrid Pro?

The Simba Hybrid Pro is 3cm deeper than the Simba Hybrid (28cm against 25cm) and has up to 4,800 springs against 1,900, plus a British wool layer and a steel-sprung SupportCore base in place of the Hybrid's nine-zone foam base. The Hybrid's comfort layer is graphite-infused Simbatex foam, while the Pro adds British wool over two microspring layers. A double Pro costs 44% more at list price.

How much is a Simba mattress in a single, double or king size?

A Simba double (135x190) costs from £699 for the Hybrid Essential to £2,399 for the Hybrid Ultra at list price, and a king (150x200) from £799 to £2,599. The cheapest adult single (90x190) is the Hybrid Essential at £549, with the original Hybrid at £699. Simba runs frequent sales, and on 28 September 2026 its UK site showed 25% to 30% off these prices.

Are Simba mattresses good according to UK reviews?

Yes, independent UK reviewers rate most of the Simba range positively, though no single model suits every sleeper. TechRadar gave the Hybrid Luxe 5 out of 5 for edge support but found the Hybrid Pro too firm for lighter side sleepers, and Tom's Guide made the Hybrid Ultra an Editor's Choice.

What sizes do Simba mattresses come in?

Simba sells the UK single (90x190), small double (120x190), double (135x190), king (150x200) and super king (180x200) plus EU sizes 90x200, 140x200 and 160x200, but only the Simba Hybrid comes in all eight. The Hybrid Essential stops at king, the Hybrid Ultra and all three Natural Hybrid models skip the small double and EU sizes, and the Hybrid Kids is a UK single only.

How long is the Simba mattress trial and guarantee?

Every Simba mattress in this comparison comes with a 200-night trial, with free collection if you return it, and a 10-year guarantee against manufacturing faults. The boxed Hybrid models arrive the next day on the UK mainland when ordered by 1pm, while the Natural Hybrid Source, Escape and Apex are delivered flat on a date you choose.

Do you need a mattress protector on a Simba?

Yes, if you want to keep the 10-year guarantee, because Simba's product pages state that a protector is required to maintain it. It matters most on the Natural Hybrid Source, Escape and Apex, whose covers cannot be removed for washing, and Simba's help centre names regular rotation as a further condition of the guarantee.

Are Simba mattresses made in the UK?

Partly. Simba states that its Natural Hybrid mattresses, including the Source, Escape and Apex, are sourced and crafted in the UK, with British and Hampshire wool and a sprung base whose steel barrel springs are made in Hampshire. Its Hybrid models use Aerocoil microsprings that Simba says are manufactured in Leeds.
