Emma Original Pro

Best overall

Emma Original Pro

The Emma Original Pro is the mattress we would buy this Black Friday. It is a 27 cm hybrid with seven zones of pocket springs under a graphite-infused cooling foam, and it stayed cool when we slept on it at home through a summer.

A double costs £799 and a king £919 at the regular price, so any Emma code in November is easy to measure. The 200-night trial with free collection means a wrong call on firmness costs you nothing.

Pros
  • Seven zones of pocket springs
  • Graphite-infused cooling foam layer
  • 200 nights to return it, collected free
  • 10-year guarantee
Cons
  • Emma calls it medium, but it felt firmer to us
  • No layer thicknesses published

Emma Performance

Best premium pick

Emma Performance

The Emma Performance has the highest score on this page and is the coolest Emma we have slept on, thanks to an open AirGrid layer above two layers of memory foam and zoned springs. It is our premium pick rather than the overall winner because a double costs £1,209, well above the Original Pro.

If you sleep hot and the budget stretches, it is the Emma to watch in the sale.

Pros
  • Open AirGrid layer keeps air moving
  • Choice of 26, 28 or 30 cm
  • Top cover washes at 40°C
Cons
  • Heavy, 38.4 kg for a 26 cm double
  • Base of the cover is dry-clean only

Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory

Best budget pick

Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory

A pocket-sprung double for £199 is the cheapest way on this list to get individually wrapped springs, and the Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory adds a memory foam layer on top in a 22 cm rolled mattress made in the UK. Aspire showed no crossed-out price on it on 10 or 26 October, so any November reduction would be a cut to a price that has held.

The catch is the returns policy. Aspire's terms refuse a return once the hygiene seal is broken, so buy it knowing it is the feel you want.

Pros
  • Wrapped springs limit partner disturbance
  • Made in the UK, delivered rolled
  • No inflated reference price to see through
Cons
  • Aspire refuses returns once unsealed
  • No super king size
  • Handles cost £15 extra

Recommended for couples

Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress

For couples who want more spring than foam, the Simba Hybrid Pro stacks up to 4,800 springs in a king across three layers, with British wool on top and a steel-sprung base that keeps the edges firm. At £1,299 for a double it is the dearest mattress on this list and scores below the Emma Performance, which leaves it for couples who specifically want springs over foam.

Check whether you qualify for Simba's group discount before you wait for a general sale.

Pros
  • Three spring layers, up to 4,800 in a king
  • Steel base firms the edges for sitting
  • British wool layer for airflow
Cons
  • Double costs 44% more than the Simba Hybrid
  • HeatRelease cooling upgrade costs extra

Best pillowtop mattress

Aspire 7000 Pocket Wool Cashmere and Silk Pillowtop

Seven thousand springs, three thousand of them inside a hand-tufted pillowtop with a wool, cashmere and silk blend, make the Aspire 7000 Pocket Wool Cashmere and Silk Pillowtop a lot of mattress for £510 in a double and £570 in a king.

It is also the clearest example of a reference price to ignore. Aspire shows a much higher crossed-out figure next to every size, so compare what you pay, never the saving on the banner. Choose it over the Emma Original for more springs for less, if you can do without a home trial.

Pros
  • 7,000 springs, 3,000 in the pillowtop
  • Wool, cashmere and silk comfort blend
  • Hand tufted with stitched borders
Cons
  • No home trial
  • Pillowtop side cannot be flipped
  • Depth not published by Aspire

Emma Original
Emma OriginalEmma OriginalEmma Original
Best mid-price hybrid

Emma Original

If the Original Pro's price is the sticking point, the Emma Original costs £529 in a double and keeps what matters most, memory foam over five-zone pocket springs in 25 cm. It is medium-firm, as Emma says, and quiet when a partner turns over. What you give up is the Pro's graphite cooling layer and two of its spring zones.

Pros
  • Five-zone springs keep the centre level
  • Cover zips off for a 40°C wash
  • Non-slip base cover stays put on the frame
Cons
  • No dedicated cooling layer
  • Can feel firm for very light sleepers

Simba Hybrid Mattress
Simba Hybrid MattressSimba Hybrid MattressSimba Hybrid Mattress
Best for combination sleepers

Simba Hybrid Mattress

Simba's best-known mattress pairs 1,900 conical Aerocoil microsprings with a nine-zone foam base in 25 cm, a springy medium-firm surface that makes it easy to change position through the night. A double is £899 and a king £999.

It sits just below the Emma Original on our scores and costs more in every size, so choose it for the springier feel rather than the price.

Pros
  • 1,900 microsprings limit motion transfer
  • Nine-zone base firmer under the hips
  • Springy surface makes turning over easy
Cons
  • Softer edges than the Hybrid Pro
  • Only one spring layer, unlike the Pro

Recommended for foam-averse sleepers

Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1200 Pocket

Made in the UK with 1,200 Mirapocket springs, a breathable fibre layer and a mesh side border, the Silentnight Comfort Breathe 1200 suits sleepers who would rather avoid memory foam. A double costs £499 and a king £599.

Silentnight's 60-night trial is an exchange for another mattress, not a refund, so it suits buyers who already know they like a medium-firm sprung bed.

Pros
  • Fibre comfort layer, no memory foam
  • Mesh border lets warm air out
  • All five UK sizes
Cons
  • 60-night trial is an exchange only
  • Made to order, up to 14 days' delivery

Nectar Classic Memory Foam Mattress

Nectar's 365-night trial is the longest on this list, and the Classic Memory Foam is the cheapest way into the range at £449 for a double. Read two things before you buy it in a sale. Nectar's percentage banners compare its prices with an average of other brands rather than its own earlier price, and a returned mattress is refunded less the value of any free items that came in the bundle.

Pros
  • 365 nights to decide
  • Seven-zone castellated foam base
  • Made in Derbyshire
Cons
  • All-foam, less airflow than a hybrid
  • Old mattress removal costs £60 extra

Check what the saving is measured against

Simba’s undertakings to the Competition and Markets Authority, given after an investigation into its discount claims and countdown timers, signed in July 2024 and revised in September 2026, say a higher “was” price only counts once the mattress has sold at it “for a sufficient period of time and in sufficient volumes” (CMA case page). Three pricing styles on this list show why that test matters. Aspire prints a crossed-out price two and a half to three times the selling price next to every size of its 7000 Pillowtop. Nectar measures its percentages against an average of other brands’ prices. And on 26 October Emma’s headline offer added free products to a mattress order, which Emma’s UK site valued at up to £509, though a bundle is worth only what you would have paid for the extras. Our guide to Black Friday mattress sales covers the regulator’s and the advertising watchdog’s mattress cases in detail.

Put the trial ahead of the percentage

Buy online and the law gives you 14 days after delivery to cancel, under regulation 30 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Some sellers refuse a mattress once its wrapping is off, pointing to the exception for sealed goods that cannot be returned for hygiene reasons (regulation 28). Yet in a 2019 case about exactly that, the EU Court of Justice ruled that a mattress whose protective film has been removed can still be sent back, because the seller can clean it for resale (Slewo judgment), a pre-Brexit ruling that remains part of UK law as assimilated case law. Aspire’s terms still exclude returns once its hygiene seal is broken, so a brand trial remains the safer protection. Emma and Simba give 200 nights with a refund and Nectar 365, while Silentnight’s 60 nights buy an exchange for another mattress rather than your money back. A refund trial protects the whole price, which no discount code can do.

Replace now, or wait another year?

The National Bed Federation and its consumer arm, the Sleep Council, recommend replacing a mattress every seven to eight years, roughly 20,000 hours of use, and their 2019 research put the average replacement at 6.9 years (Furniture News). “It would seem that a growing number of consumers are replacing their mattresses every seven years,” said Simon Williams, the federation’s marketing manager, when the figures were published. If yours is past that age and you wake up stiff, the sales are a sensible moment to replace it. If it is younger and only feels too firm or too warm, a topper may be the better buy.

Black Friday mattress topper deals

Toppers are discounted in the same sales and cost a fraction of a new mattress. The Emma Original Topper costs £219 in a double at its regular price, and Silentnight’s Hotel Collection topper, 10 cm deep, £67 in the same size. Our best mattress toppers ranking covers the rest, and our Black Friday pillow deals apply the same checks to pillows.

Methodology

How we rate

We built this list to answer one question, which mattresses are worth buying in the UK Black Friday sales. Every pick sells in standard UK sizes and was in stock on its maker’s own website when we checked prices on 26 October 2026. Those regular prices are the ones in the price table above.

Each mattress is scored on comfort, support and temperature from its construction, and on value from the price of a 4ft6 double and a 5ft king set against the trial and guarantee that come with it. We slept on the three Emma mattresses at home. A refund trial weighs more than a headline percentage, because it lets you change your mind on firmness at no cost.

The top three answer three budgets, the best overall, the best premium mattress and the best budget double, and below them the order follows our scores. The Emma Performance has the highest score on the page but takes the premium slot rather than first place, because a double costs £410 more than the Emma Original Pro. The Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory ranks third as the budget pick, above several higher-scored but dearer mattresses. We will update prices and offers here as brands publish their Black Friday terms.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Black Friday mattress deal in the UK?

The Emma Original Pro is our pick for this year's Black Friday, a 27 cm seven-zone hybrid that costs £799 for a double before any code. Its 200-night trial with free collection means a sale purchase carries no firmness risk. If the price is still too high in November, the Emma Original offers a similar pocket-spring build for less.

Which king size mattresses are worth buying on Black Friday?

In a 5ft king (150x200) the Emma Original Pro costs £919 and the Simba Hybrid Pro £1,399 at their regular prices, and the Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory is the budget option at £219. Compare any November price with those figures rather than with the percentage on the banner.

What are the best Black Friday double mattress deals?

For a 4ft6 double (135x190), the Emma Original Pro at £799 is our overall pick and the Aspire Pocket+ 1000 Memory at £199 the budget option. In between, the Emma Original at £529 keeps a 200-night refund trial, and the Aspire 7000 Pillowtop at £510 puts 7,000 springs under you for less.

Are Black Friday mattress topper deals worth it?

A topper is worth buying in the sales if your mattress still supports you and only feels too firm or too warm. The Emma Original Topper costs £219 in a double at its regular price, and our best mattress toppers ranking lists the alternatives.

Can I return a mattress bought in a Black Friday sale?

Online orders carry a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and the EU Court of Justice ruled in 2019 that unwrapping a mattress does not by itself end that right. Brand trials go further, with 200 nights at Emma and Simba and 365 at Nectar.

Do Emma and Simba discount mattresses before Black Friday?

Partly. On 26 October 2026 Emma offered 25% off through codes for verified groups and added free products to mattress orders (on 27 October it opened its Black Friday sale, running to 30 November, and cut the group code to an extra 5%), and Simba offered up to 26% off to key workers, teachers, carers and some other groups.

How do I know a Black Friday mattress discount is real?

Compare the sale price with what the same model in the same size cost on the seller's own site a few weeks earlier, not with an RRP or other brands' prices. Our Black Friday mattress guide explains the regulator's rulings behind that rule.
