Firmness: Medium soft · 200-night sleep trialThe Emma Original Pro is a 27 cm seven-zone hybrid with graphite ThermoSync foam, firmer in our test than Emma's rating.
The Emma Original Pro is a 27 cm hybrid mattress with a seven-zone pocket spring core and a graphite-infused ThermoSync foam layer for temperature control, sold from £539 in a UK single. Emma rates it 3 out of 5 (medium). We tested the current version at home and found it firmer than that, which makes it a strong pick for back and front sleepers and hot sleepers.
Emma’s Original Pro product page lists four foams above the spring unit. It does not publish layer thicknesses, so we cannot check its claim that the MemoryAdapt layer is thicker than in the previous version.
| Layer | Material | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Cover | 100% polyester, thicker premium fabric | Removable, washable at 40°C |
| ThermoSync | Graphite-infused foam | Draws heat away from the surface |
| Airgocell | Point-elastic open-cell foam | Responsive cushioning |
| MemoryAdapt | Memory foam | Pressure relief at shoulders and hips |
| SupportBase | High-density foam | Transition to the springs |
| Core | Pocket springs, seven zones | Zoned support, comfort foam edge |
This version is noticeably firmer than the previous Original Pro, which answers the main complaint about the older model. The feel is responsive with a slight bounce, so you rest on the mattress rather than in it. MemoryAdapt sits below the ThermoSync and Airgocell foams and never touches the body directly, so there is none of the slow sink of a classic memory foam mattress. Below about 60 kg you do not press hard enough to engage the comfort layers, and support is what you feel first. For that reason we rate it 6 out of 10, medium-firm.
On your back it is at its best, with the pelvis held and the spine aligned. Front sleepers are well served too, because the firm support stops the hips sagging. Side sleeping is the less certain case for a light build, since shoulders and hips need to sink and this mattress lets them sink only a little.
It never ran hot for us, even in summer. Emma says the Original Pro absorbs heat up to 10% faster than its all-foam Original Classic, citing a thermal insulation test by an accredited institute in Kiel in February and March 2026. Staying cool matters, because a review of sleep and temperature in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology (Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno, 2012) found that heat exposure under bedding increases wakefulness and reduces slow-wave and REM sleep.

The cover comes off from the top without flipping the mattress, which is what makes you actually wash it. The care label in our sample’s cover lists 100% polyester and carries an OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 label, number 16.0.93305 from Hohenstein HTTI. That standard tests every component of a textile against more than 1,000 harmful substances. Side handles help when you position 27 cm of mattress on a base.

Back and front sleepers, hot sleepers, and anyone of average or heavier build in any position. It has good arguments for lower back pain because the pelvis does not sink. If you are light and sleep on your side, the softer Emma Original Elite is the better match. Emma includes a 200-night trial, a 10-year guarantee and free delivery in 2 to 7 working days.

“The Emma Original Pro won us over: firm, responsive support for back and front sleepers and no overheating across a summer of use. At 3 out of 5 on Emma's scale it is sold as medium, but light side sleepers should expect firmer and look at the Original Elite first.”Go to shop →
