The Nectar Classic Memory Foam Mattress is a 25cm, five-layer all-foam mattress that Nectar rates 6.5 out of 10 for firmness, and it is the cheapest way into the Nectar range at £199 for a single. It suits back and front sleepers who want a medium-firm surface with the low motion transfer of solid foam, and anyone furnishing a spare room on a budget.

What is inside the Nectar Classic

Nectar lists five layers on its Classic Memory Foam product page, from the top down:

  1. a polyester cover with cooling fibres;
  2. a breathable “dynamic support” foam that adds some bounce;
  3. contouring memory foam;
  4. a castellated base foam cut into seven support zones;
  5. a non-slip layer that grips the bed frame.

Nectar says on its home trial page that its mattresses are made in Derbyshire, and the three foam layers carry CertiPUR certification. Under the CertiPUR scheme run by the European foam industry body EUROPUR, the foams of label holders are retested every year by independent laboratories against limits on substances of concern, which is a more useful assurance than a one-off lab claim.

Sizes, weights and prices

UK size Dimensions (cm) Weight Price
Single 90 x 190 x 25 22.2kg £199
Small double 120 x 190 x 25 31.1kg £449
Double 135 x 190 x 25 31.1kg £449
King 150 x 200 x 25 36.4kg £549
Super king 180 x 200 x 25 43.0kg £649

Dimensions and weights are Nectar’s figures; prices are Nectar’s regular prices at the time of writing (September 2026), before the checkout voucher the shop usually runs. The small double and double cost the same, so the double is the better buy if your frame takes it.

Feel and support

The Classic gives an initial sink into the memory foam, then meets a firmer zoned base. That medium-firm balance is the one the research favours for backs. In a randomised trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain published in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003), people given medium-firm mattresses reported less pain in bed and on rising after 90 days than people on firm ones. Lighter side sleepers may still find the shoulders under-cushioned, and the softer Premier Memory Foam is the better Nectar for them.

Temperature

Nectar puts cooling fibres in the cover, but everything under it is solid foam, so if you run hot, a spring hybrid such as the Nectar Classic Hybrid moves more air. Nectar also says its range holds MTick certification for menopause-friendly products, which matters because, as the NHS page on menopause symptoms notes, sleep problems may be worse if you also have night sweats.

Trial, warranty and delivery

Every size comes with a 365-night home trial and free named-day delivery. Under Nectar’s Forever Warranty terms, a faulty mattress is replaced in the first ten years; after that Nectar repairs, re-covers or replaces it, with a £65 each-way transport charge that is waived only if a defect is confirmed. Removing your old mattress costs £60 with premium delivery. The National Bed Federation suggests considering a new mattress once yours is more than seven to ten years old, so the ten-year replacement window covers the useful life most households get from a mattress.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Classic Memory Foam is our pick for back and front sleepers who want a 25cm all-foam mattress with Nectar's trial and warranty at the lowest price in the range. Lighter side sleepers and anyone who sleeps hot should step up to the Premier Memory Foam or one of the hybrids.”
