“Most buyers set on TEMPUR should start with the 25cm PRO Plus and drop to EASE only when the price gap matters more than a choice of four feels. Very hot sleepers should think hard before buying any of them, because every model is all-foam.”
What the PRO price buys over EASE
A 21cm TEMPUR PRO SmartCool double lists at £2,299, between £900 and £1,100 more than an EASE double, and the money goes into three things.
- More TEMPUR material. The PRO has 3cm and the PRO Plus and PRO Luxe 5cm of TEMPUR Advanced Material over a separate Dynamic Support layer, while every EASE depth has the same 3cm of TEMPUR Adapt Material over plain base foam.
- A choice of feel. PRO comes in soft, medium, medium firm and firm at one price per size; EASE is sold in medium firm only.
- The cover and the size menu. The PRO’s SmartCool QuickRefresh top panel zips off, and TEMPUR rates PRO covers for 40°C or 60°C washing against 30°C for EASE. PRO is made in 11 UK sizes against five for EASE, which has no standard 90x190 single.
Either line is a premium purchase by UK standards. The National Bed Federation’s 18th annual bed-buying survey, which questioned 1,000 adults who had bought a mattress in the past year, put the mean price paid at £543 and found that only 20% spent £800 or more. The cheapest TEMPUR double, the EASE 20, lists at £1,199.
List prices by UK size
These are TEMPUR UK list prices, checked on 28 September 2026. Promotions regularly run below them, and PRO is also sold in four special sizes (120x190, 120x200, 135x200 and 160x200).
How depth changes each line
Depth means different things in the two lines. In PRO, the extra centimetres add TEMPUR material. The PRO Plus has 2cm more Advanced Material than the 21cm PRO, and the PRO Luxe doubles the Dynamic Support layer to 10cm, which earns it the highest comfort score here. In EASE, the comfort layer stays at 3cm on all three depths and the extra height is base foam, so stepping up from the EASE 20 to the EASE 25 buys support and height rather than a deeper contour.
Depth also brings weight. A PRO Luxe double weighs 43.3kg unboxed in medium firm and 49.1kg in the other three feels, about twice the 22.5kg of an EASE 20 double, and a 30cm mattress needs fitted sheets with a deep pocket. Expert Reviews also points out that the EASE has no carry handles, which you notice when rotating it.
Which feel suits you
For back pain, medium firm is the setting with the strongest evidence. In a randomised, double-blind trial published in The Lancet in 2003, Kovacs and colleagues gave 313 adults with chronic low-back pain either a firm or a medium-firm mattress, and after 90 days the medium-firm group had better outcomes for pain in bed (odds ratio 2.36). A 2015 systematic review of 24 trials in Sleep Health also concluded that medium-firm and self-adjusted mattresses were best for sleep comfort, quality and spinal alignment. Neither study used TEMPUR mattresses, so read them as evidence about firmness. Every EASE is medium firm, and all three PRO models offer medium firm alongside soft, medium and firm. The Expert Reviews tester, who prefers a firm bed, chose the firm PRO Plus and pointed lightweight side sleepers towards a softer version. For heavier sleepers, TEMPUR’s product pages give a weight capacity of approximately 150kg (23 stone) per side.
Heat is the main trade-off
All six are all-foam, and memory foam softens as it absorbs body heat. Reviewing the PRO Plus for Expert Reviews, Jo Plumridge wrote that “those who are particularly prone to sleeping hot at night might want to consider their alternatives”, even though its surface cooled from 30°C to 24.4°C within three minutes in her body-temperature test during a heatwave. Of the EASE, which has no SmartCool cover, she wrote “I wouldn’t recommend it to really hot sleepers”. If that describes you, the hybrids in our best mattresses ranking or the Emma and Simba ranges are the better starting point. Trial, guarantee and the protector rule
All six share a 100-night trial and a 10-year guarantee, so neither separates them, but the terms matter. TEMPUR’s trial page asks you to sleep on the mattress for at least 60 nights before returning it, applies only to orders placed directly with TEMPUR UK, allows one trial per household and requires a breathable mattress protector, and collection can carry an uplift charge. The 10-year guarantee covers defects and any visible indentation deeper than 2cm in the TEMPUR material. That outlasts most mattresses. The NBF survey found the average mattress was 6.84 years old when replaced, and 76.5% were replaced before they reached 10.
