What the TEMPUR ONE Topper is, and what you pay for

The TEMPUR ONE Topper is 5cm of TEMPUR Adapt foam in one medium feel, inside a zip-off polyester cover that washes at 40°C, according to TEMPUR’s product page. TEMPUR’s country-of-origin page says the material is made in Denmark and lists toppers among the products tested to the BS 7177 and BS 5852 Crib V fire standards. The money buys the slow, body-moulding TEMPUR feel rather than extra depth, since several cheaper alternatives here are thicker.

Heat is the trade-off

Dense memory foam moulds closely to the body, and that close contact slows the escape of heat. In a lab study published in the Textile Research Journal (Worsley and Bader, 2019), a viscoelastic foam surface passed 10.4 W/m² of heat flux under a heated body model, against 33.6 W/m² for a spacer fabric, roughly a third of the heat dissipation. The study measured support surfaces in a lab rather than the TEMPUR ONE itself, so read it as a direction. A topper on a TEMPUR mattress
