Latex Sense publishes a density for every topper, which makes the range easy to compare on numbers rather than adjectives. The Luxury shares its 6cm depth and Tencel cover with the Firmsense but uses latex about a quarter less dense, so it cushions the shoulders and hips while still pushing back.
| Latex Sense topper | Latex | Density | Firmness | Depth | UK double (135 x 190cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Firmsense | Natural Dunlop | 85kg/m³ | Firm | 6cm | £380 |
| Luxury | Natural Dunlop | 65kg/m³ | Medium | 6cm | £345 |
| Organic | GOLS organic Dunlop | 65kg/m³ | Medium-soft | 7cm | £515 |
| Ultimate | Natural Talalay | 60kg/m³ | Soft | 6cm | £640 |
According to Latex Sense's guide to Dunlop and Talalay latex, Dunlop latex is whipped into a foam, poured into a mould and vulcanised with steam, while Talalay adds a vacuum and a freezing step. On the Luxury's product page the company describes Dunlop as denser and generally firmer, Talalay as plusher and more buoyant. The Luxury is the middle ground in the range, and the one we would point most couples with different sleeping positions towards.
A medium latex layer fits a firm mattress that has become uncomfortable at the pressure points. Back sleepers and people who change position during the night get some contouring without sinking, and side sleepers under average weight usually find enough give. It does less for a mattress that is already soft. The National Bed Federation notes in its guide to replacing a bed that research links an uncomfortable bed to losing up to an hour's sleep, and it lists a mattress older than seven to 10 years as a sign you may need a new one rather than a topper.
Latex Sense lists the eco-INSTITUT label, an LGA durability test and OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which tests against more than 1,000 harmful substances, for the latex in this topper. The company behind the brand, Yanis Foams and Mattresses, is a member of the National Bed Federation, the UK trade body whose members account for about 75% of UK bedding turnover. The toppers are made to order in the UK and delivered vacuum-packed and rolled; allow up to 12 hours for full recovery.

The cover is not washable, so the maker insists on a mattress protector, and it asks for a rotation every six weeks and a flip every 12. Latex will also mirror any dip in the mattress beneath it.
Because the Luxury sits in the middle of the range, its 30-night trial is easy to use in either direction. Latex Sense allows one free exchange, so a buyer who finds it too soft can move to the Firmsense and one who finds it too firm to the Ultimate, paying only the difference on a dearer model. The replacement gets a fresh 30 nights, and a refund is also possible within the trial. Collection is free on the UK mainland and in Scotland, custom sizes are excluded, and a change of size costs £50. The guarantee runs for 10 years.

“The Luxury is the Latex Sense topper most people should start with: 65kg/m³ natural latex takes the edge off a firm mattress and still supports, for less than the rest of the range. Skip it if your mattress is already soft or sagging, since 6cm of medium latex cannot correct either.”Go to shop →
