Firmness: Medium · 200-night sleep trialThe Latex Sense Firmsense is a 6cm, 85kg/m³ natural Dunlop latex topper that firms up a mattress which feels too soft.
The Latex Sense Firmsense Dunlop Latex Topper is a 6cm layer of 100% natural Dunlop latex with a density of 85kg/m³, the firmest of the four toppers Latex Sense makes. It is built to give a mattress that has become too soft a stable, supportive surface, and at the time of writing (September 2026) it costs £380 in a UK double (135 x 190cm) and £285 in a single.

Density is the clearest number Latex Sense publishes, and it separates its two Dunlop toppers neatly. The Firmsense uses 85kg/m³ latex, the Luxury Dunlop topper 65kg/m³. Denser latex gives less under the shoulder and hip, so the Firmsense reads as firm rather than cushioning, and it suits back and stomach sleepers who want to lie level on top of the bed. Most side sleepers need more give at the shoulder than a firm 6cm layer offers.
Firmer is not automatically better for a sore back. In a randomised, double-blind trial of 313 adults with chronic low back pain published in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003), people given medium-firm mattresses reported less pain in bed and on rising after 90 days than those given firm ones. So the Firmsense is the right fix when a mattress has gone soft and you sink into it, and the wrong one when it is already medium-firm and your back still hurts.
Latex Sense names three checks for the latex in this topper. It carries the eco-INSTITUT label for fillers, synthetic rubber and emissions, it meets OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which screens materials against a list of more than 1,000 harmful substances, and, according to the company, it scored 99 out of 100 in an LGA durability test. The cover textiles are OEKO-TEX certified too. Instead of a chemical spray, graphite mixed into the latex acts as the fire barrier.
Latex Sense sells 11 standard sizes, UK and continental, and makes custom sizes to order. Prices were read from the product page on 28 September 2026.

The Firmsense will not rescue a mattress with dips. Latex Sense warns that latex follows the contours underneath it, and the National Bed Federation's bed advice lists sagging and an age of more than seven to 10 years as signs you may need a new mattress. The cover cannot be washed, so use a protector from the first night, and the maker asks you to rotate the topper every six weeks and flip it every 12.
The Firmsense comes with a 30-night trial counted from the day of delivery. If it turns out too firm, Latex Sense will exchange it once, for example for the medium Luxury topper, and the replacement starts a new 30 nights; you can also return it for a refund. Collection is free on the UK mainland and in Scotland. Custom sizes are excluded, and changing to a different size costs £50 in carriage. The guarantee runs for 10 years.

“Choose the Firmsense if a softened mattress leaves you sinking and you sleep on your back or front, because its 85kg/m³ latex holds you level. Side sleepers and anyone whose mattress already sags should look elsewhere, and the 10-year guarantee is the strongest part of the deal.”Go to shop →
