TEMPUR PRO Luxe SmartCool reviewed

The TEMPUR PRO Luxe SmartCool is the top of TEMPUR’s UK mattress range and, at 30cm, the deepest model it sells. In medium firm it stacks 5cm of TEMPUR Advanced Material on 10cm of Dynamic Support foam and two 7.5cm DuraBase layers, and a 135x190 double lists at £3,199 on TEMPUR’s UK shop.

Against the 25cm PRO Plus, the Luxe keeps the same 5cm of Advanced Material and doubles the Dynamic Support layer beneath it. The result is a deeper, more cushioned transition rather than a softer surface, which suits people who like the enveloping memory-foam feel and sleepers towards the top of TEMPUR’s rating of approximately 150kg per side. It also looks right on a deep divan or ottoman, where a 21cm mattress can look thin.

The idea behind all of this foam is older than the brand. Viscoelastic foam grew out of seat cushioning developed for NASA’s Ames Research Center in the late 1960s, and retired Ames engineer Charles Kubokawa described it to NASA Spinoff: “Once you sat on the foam, it conformed evenly with the contacted body surface and made you settle snugly into the seat.” TEMPUR’s own versions of the material are made in Denmark.

Weight and warmth come with the depth. A medium firm double weighs 43.3kg unboxed and an emperor 66.3kg, so moving it takes two people, and 30cm of foam holds more heat than a hybrid even under the cool-touch SmartCool cover.

UK sizes, list prices and weights

Price is the main hurdle. The National Bed Federation’s consumer survey of 500 recent bed buyers (November 2021) found that 46% spent up to £399 on a new bed and three quarters spent under £800, while the Luxe starts at £2,249 for a small single at list price in September 2026. The TEMPUR quality guarantee runs 10 years and covers visible indentation of more than 2cm in the TEMPUR material, which matters on an outlay this size. Delivery to mainland UK is free and quoted at 14 to 28 days, and direct orders include the 100-night trial.
