Best Sealy mattresses: Posturepedic and Ortho Plus compared

Sealy is an American mattress brand whose UK mattresses are handmade in Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District, according to the Sealy UK story page, which also says more than 40% of the people working there have been with the company for over 20 years. The brand belongs to Somnigroup International, the name Tempur Sealy International took in February 2025; the group’s three businesses are Tempur Sealy, Mattress Firm and the UK bed retailer Dreams. Sealy is on the National Bed Federation’s member directory.

Sealy mattresses in our catalogue

Sealy sells in the UK mainly through bed retailers. The Sealy UK site groups the range into Sealy Posturepedic (Exquisite, Elevate UltraLux, Elevate Ultra and Elevate), Sealy Select and Sealy Classics, which includes the Ortho Plus models built on PostureTech spring units. The prices below are those we found at UK stockists in September 2026, so expect them to vary by shop.

Guarantee and trials

The Sealy guarantee page gives 7 years on Posturepedic mattresses and 5 years on Sealy Classics, the family the Ortho Plus models belong to, covering defects in materials and workmanship. A claim starts with the retailer, who inspects the mattress before Sealy acts, and Sealy allows a size tolerance of plus or minus 2 cm because each mattress is handmade. Sealy sets no home trial of its own, so any trial comes from the shop; at the stockists we checked it ranged from 40 to 100 nights.

Who Sealy suits, and who it does not

Sealy suits buyers who want a conventional sprung mattress they can lie on in a bed shop before buying, and especially those who like a firm surface, since five of the eight models above are firm. It is a poorer fit if you want a long no-quibble trial or a single price you can compare online, because both depend on the retailer. The Elevate Blackwood leads our best Sealy mattresses ranking, the Grasmoor appears among our best firm mattresses, and Sealy also features in our best orthopaedic mattresses.
