The Sealy Newton Posturepedic is a 27cm no-turn coil spring mattress with a latex ComfortCore and two layers of extra-firm foam, made in Britain exclusively for Bensons for Beds. It comes in a firm and a medium comfort rating at the same price and carries a 10-year guarantee.

What is inside

The Newton page at Bensons for Beds lists the full build. Sealy designed it with the International Orthopaedic Advisory Board, a panel of orthopaedic surgeons, biomechanical engineers and medical scientists.

Prices by size

At the time of writing (September 2026), Bensons charges the same for the firm and the medium version.

UK size Dimensions (cm) Price at Bensons for Beds
Single 90 x 190 £1,299.99
Double 135 x 190 £1,499.99
King 150 x 200 £1,699.99
Super king 180 x 200 £2,099.99

That is well above the £543 mean price paid for a new mattress in the 18th National Bed Federation consumer survey, so the Newton is a premium choice in a coil spring format.

How it sleeps, according to an independent tester

Ideal Home’s review of the Newton scored it 4.5 out of 5 across ten criteria. Its tester, Rachel Tompkins, who has lower back and hip pain, wrote: “Whilst it took me a while to adjust its firmer sleep surface I soon found that its hybrid latex and coil spring design helped to reduce my lower back ache compared to the memory foam mattress I had previously been sleeping on.” The same review lists open coil springs, latex and foam as the construction, and names lighter side sleepers as the group most likely to find it too firm.

We rate the firm version 7 out of 10. Back and front sleepers are the best fit. If you are unsure, the medium version is the safer choice: a randomised trial of 313 adults published in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003) found medium-firm mattresses gave better results for chronic low-back pain than firm ones after 90 days.

Trial, guarantee and delivery

Bensons offers a 40-night comfort guarantee: after at least 5 nights, and provided you used a mattress protector, it will exchange the mattress, with charges. The 10-year guarantee applies to the Sealy Posturepedic mattresses Bensons sells. Delivery is to the room of your choice, from 7 days, for £49. Bensons and Sealy both describe the ProShield cover as endorsed by Allergy UK; the Newton itself is not named on the Allergy UK listing for Sealy, so we do not show the seal here.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“We recommend the Newton to back and front sleepers who want a firm, no-turn spring mattress with latex pressure relief and a 10-year guarantee. At Bensons' current prices it is expensive for a coil spring build, so compare it with the Elevate Blackwood before you buy.”
