Firmness: Medium softThe Hypnos Wool Origins 8 adds a layer of Adaptiv comfort springs to eight-turn pocket springs and eight fleeces of British wool.
The Hypnos Wool Origins 8 is a 32cm double-sided mattress that puts a layer of small Adaptiv comfort springs on top of eight-turn ReActivePro pocket springs and eight fleeces of British wool. At £2,059 for a double at Bed Factory Direct (September 2026) it sits between the Wool Origins 6 and 10, and it is the model in the range built for closer contouring at the shoulder and hip.
The main spring unit has Triple Edge Protection, with higher-tension springs in the outer three rows on both faces, and three rows of hand side-stitching tie the border to it. The Adaptiv layer is what separates it from the Wool Origins 6, and Hypnos describes those mini springs as contouring to the shape and movement of the body. The fillings are wool from Red Tractor assured farms, including coarse Swaledale wool, under an unbleached cotton and viscose cover. Farming UK reported in 2020 that the Wool Origins range holds as much as eight fleeces, about 16kg, of assured British wool in a 150cm mattress, and that the farms in the scheme are regularly audited.
| Size | Dimensions (cm) | Price at Bed Factory Direct |
|---|---|---|
| Small single | 75x190 | £1,649 |
| Single | 90x190 | £1,649 |
| Small double | 120x190 | £2,059 |
| Double | 135x190 | £2,059 |
| King | 150x200 | £2,289 |
| Super king | 180x200 | £2,739 |
Both spring tensions cost the same. Hypnos rates the medium tension as medium and the firmer one as medium firm, and we score the medium version at 5 out of 10. With springs and natural fibres throughout and no foam, it is aimed at people who wake up warm on memory foam.
The drawback is weight. Hypnos gives 57.9kg for a king and 69.5kg for a super king, against 40.3kg for a Wool Origins 6 king, and this is a seasonal-turn mattress. Turning is not optional if you want the cover of the 10-year guarantee: the Hypnos guarantee terms exclude mattresses not turned or rotated as recommended. If two people cannot manage that every three to four months, the interval Hypnos recommends, a single-sided Hypnos such as the Luxury No Turn 8 is the more practical route to a similar spring count.
Bed Factory Direct makes it to order with free delivery in four to six weeks and lists no sleep trial. For context on price, the National Bed Federation’s November 2021 survey of 500 recent buyers found three quarters spent under £800 on a new bed, so the Wool Origins 8 is a considered purchase that makes most sense if you keep a mattress for its full guarantee period.

“The Wool Origins 8 is the one we would pick in this range if you sleep on your side and want more give at the shoulder than the 6 offers. Its 57.9kg king weight makes the seasonal turn a real chore, so be sure you can manage it.”Go to shop →
