The Hypnos Wool Origins 6 is a 29cm double-sided pocket sprung mattress filled with eight fleeces of traceable British wool and no foam, and it is the lowest-priced of the three Wool Origins models at £1,649 for a double at Bed Factory Direct (September 2026). It is handmade to order at the Hypnos factory in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, in a medium or a firmer spring tension at the same price.

The support comes from ReActivePro pocket springs with six active turns and Triple Edge Protection, three rows of higher-tension springs around the border on both sides so the edge holds when you sit on it. Above them sit a pad of coarse Swaledale wool and the eight fleeces, which Hypnos puts at 16.3kg of wool in a 150cm king. The wool is traceable to Red Tractor assured farms; when Hypnos launched the Origins collection in 2020, Farming UK reported the Red Tractor partnership as an industry first and quoted Hypnos as saying that the farms involved are regularly audited for animal welfare and land management. The cover is unbleached cotton and viscose, made fire-resistant without synthetic flame retardants.

Specifications are from Hypnos, prices from Bed Factory Direct in September 2026. The table shows why the 6 is the one most people should look at first. It has the same fleece count as the 8 for several hundred pounds less, and it is the lightest of the wool-rich trio by a wide margin.

It is also the Hypnos with the most independent scrutiny. Ideal Home scored it 4.5 out of 5 in a review published in September 2024, after its reviewer had slept on the firmer tension for two years. She put that version at medium-firm and found it extremely breathable, which suited her partner, who tends to overheat, and she noted that the handmade mattress took around two months to arrive. We rate the medium tension at 4 out of 10 for firmness, since Hypnos describes it as medium soft and the firmer tension as medium.

The trade-off is upkeep. Hypnos asks for a double-sided mattress like this to be turned and rotated every three to four months, and weekly for the first three months while the fillings settle. At 40.3kg in king that is a two-person job, and the Hypnos guarantee terms exclude a mattress that has not been turned or rotated as recommended. Bed Factory Direct quotes four to six weeks for delivery and lists no sleep trial.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Wool Origins 6 is the Hypnos we would buy first, with 29cm of springs and eight fleeces of wool and no foam at the lowest price of the three Wool Origins models. Skip it if you cannot turn a 40kg mattress every season, because the no-turn Cotton Origins 6 will serve you better.”
