The Eve Hybrid Duo Plus Mattress is the soft version of the Duo, a 28cm UK-made rolled hybrid with 2,900 dual-layer pocket springs, an open-cell airflow foam and CertiPUR-certified memory foam, sold only by Bensons for Beds from £549.99 for a single. It is the Eve to look at if you sleep on your side and like to sink in a little.

Duo Plus against Duo

The two share a height, a cover and the Bensons-only sales route. The differences are the ones that change the feel.

Bensons says the airflow foam is 30 times more breathable than standard foams, thanks to its open-cell structure, and a footnote on the product page adds that the comparison is with the foams Bensons used before. It is a manufacturer figure, not an independent measurement. Warm sleepers can also help themselves for free, since the NHS Every Mind Matters advice is that “You may find it easier to sleep in a room that is quiet, dark and cool.”

Construction and standards

Under the quilted soft-touch knit cover sit the airflow foam, the memory foam and the spring unit, which Bensons’ layer diagram splits into 1,500 mini springs over 1,400 full-size pocket springs, with a foam perimeter for edge support. The memory foam is CertiPUR-certified, a scheme in which EUROPUR has label holders’ foams checked every year by independent laboratories. Bensons says the mattress is made in the UK in a factory accredited to the BSI Kitemark scheme, and that the sleep surface is naturally fire-retardant without chemical treatment. UK manufacture is worth something here. In the Project Phoenix study by the National Bed Federation and the European Bedding Industries Association, 65% of the imported mattresses among 101 tested failed to meet the required fire safety standards.

Guarantee, delivery and the catch

There is an 8-year guarantee and a 40-night comfort guarantee, which is a one-off exchange between night 5 and night 40, with a mattress protector used, at a charge of 10% of the original price plus re-delivery. There is no refund. Room-of-choice delivery costs £49 for one item over £100. The soft rating is the real limit, because back and front sleepers usually need a firmer surface to keep the hips level, and for them the medium Duo is both the better fit and the cheaper one.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Choose the Duo Plus over the Duo if you sleep on your side and want a softer, more cushioned bed with 1,000 extra springs. Back and front sleepers are better served by the medium Hybrid Duo, which also costs less.”
