Why an Eve is sold at Bensons

Bensons for Beds bought the Eve Sleep brand and its intellectual property out of administration on 17 October 2022, paying £600,000 according to Retail Gazette. Since then Eve has run two ranges, the foam and hybrid models on its own website and a separate UK-made line, including the Duo, that only Bensons sells. The terms follow the shop you buy from, which matters for the trial.

What the Hybrid Duo is made of

• A quilted, soft-touch stretch knit cover.
• CertiPUR-certified memory foam for pressure relief.
• 1,900 pocket springs in two layers, 800 mini springs over 1,100 full-size pocket springs according to Bensons’ layer diagram.
• A foam perimeter so the edge holds up when you sit or sleep near it.
• A sleep surface Bensons describes as naturally fire-retardant, with no chemical treatment.

CertiPUR is more than a logo. EUROPUR, which runs the scheme, restricts substances in the foam and has label holders’ foams tested every year by independent laboratories. Bensons adds that the Duo is made in a factory accredited to the BSI Kitemark scheme and needs no turning.

Firmness and who it suits

Bensons rates the Duo medium, the middle of its scale, which suits back sleepers, most side sleepers and couples who disagree on firmness. That is also roughly where the evidence points for back pain. A randomised trial in The Lancet of 313 adults with chronic low back pain found that medium-firm mattresses improved pain in bed and disability after 90 days more than firm ones did.

Guarantee and delivery

The Duo carries an 8-year guarantee, two years less than Eve’s own models, although that still covers the seven-year replacement point that Bed Advice UK, the National Bed Federation’s consumer site, says sleep experts recommend. It is not sold with a refund trial. The 40-night comfort guarantee is a one-off exchange between night 5 and night 40, open only if you have used a mattress protector, and Bensons charges 10% of the original price plus a re-delivery fee for it. Delivery to the room of your choice costs £49 for a single item over £100, or you can collect the rolled mattress from one of Bensons’ 170 stores.
