The Bensons Highbury Ortho Comfort is a 26.5cm double-sided pocket sprung mattress with a medium feel, made for Bensons for Beds in the UK and sold in its stores and online. It pairs 1,000 pocket springs with hand-tufted orthopaedic fillings and a damask cover, a traditional build that you turn as well as rotate.

Construction

Layer, top to bottom What Bensons lists
Cover Damask, both sides
Comfort layer Hypoallergenic, breathable fibre, 70% recycled
Support fillings Firmer orthopaedic fillings, hand tufted
Spring unit 1,000 individually pocketed springs
Edge Dynamic reinforced edge support
Reverse side Same fillings and cover as the top

Because both faces carry the same fillings, the Highbury can be flipped as well as turned end to end, which spreads wear over twice the surface. The National Bed Federation’s guide to choosing a mattress puts most pocket spring counts between 600 and 2,500, so 1,000 sits in the middle: enough independent springs to keep a partner’s movement local without the price of a dual-layer unit.

Bensons grades it medium, which we place at 5 out of 10. The orthopaedic fillings under the comfort layer stop it feeling soft, so it suits back sleepers and combination sleepers of average weight best; side sleepers who want their shoulder to sink in should look at a pillowtop or the softer Lytham Memory. If you want the same build firmer, Bensons sells it as the Highbury Ortho.

Sizes and prices

Size Dimensions (cm) Price at Bensons
Single 90 x 190 £329.99
Small double 120 x 190 £399.99
Double 135 x 190 £399.99
King 150 x 200 £499.99
Super king 180 x 200 £579.99

Prices were read on the Bensons product page on 11 October 2026. Bensons shows a crossed-out price exactly twice the selling price on this model, a standing structure across its own label rather than a dated sale, so budget for the lower figure.

What to know before you buy

The Highbury comes with a free five-year guarantee from Bensons and, as a new mattress bought after 24 June 2026, falls under the Bensons Lifetime Guarantee for defects once those five years run out. The 40 night comfort guarantee lets you exchange it once between night 5 and night 40 if it feels wrong, for 10% of the price plus a re-delivery charge, as long as you have used a mattress protector. It is delivered flat, not rolled, and there is no small single.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Highbury Ortho Comfort is the Bensons mattress we would point most people to first: a medium pocket sprung build you can flip, at a price that leaves room for a good base. Light side sleepers are the exception and should go softer.”
