Best Relyon mattresses

Relyon has made mattresses by hand in Wellington, Somerset, since 1858, but it sells only through retailers, so the same range turns up under different model names and at different prices from shop to shop. Choosing a Relyon mattress comes down to whether you want a no-turn mattress or a traditional two-sided one, which springs and natural fillings you are paying for, and the returns terms of the retailer you buy from. Our reviews and comparison below rank the Relyon models you can buy online in the UK today.

Relyon Natural Luxury Supreme 2150 Pillow Top

The Natural Luxury Supreme 2150 Pillow Top is the Relyon we would buy first. A pillow top of pure wool and silk sits over 2,150 pocket springs in a king, so it feels soft as you lie down and steady underneath, a medium balance that suits back and side sleepers and couples who sleep in both positions.

A double costs £819 at MattressNextDay, less than the Luxury Silk 2850, which makes it the better-value of the two pillow tops. It never needs flipping, only rotating head to toe. At 34cm it is the deepest mattress here, so check that your fitted sheets have a deep enough pocket.

Pros
  • Wool and silk pillow top over 2,150 springs
  • Medium feel for back and side sleepers
  • Rotate only, no flipping
  • Edge+ reinforced border
Cons
  • Not for anyone avoiding animal fibres
  • A two-person lift at 56kg in a king

Best for side sleepers

Relyon Luxury Silk 2850

Side sleepers who want their shoulders and hips to sink in a little should look at the Luxury Silk 2850. Its pillow top holds a layer of mini pocket springs, counted into the 2,850 total for a king, under a blend of cashmere and silk.

It is the top of the Naturals line in Relyon's Classic collection and costs £909 for a double at Mattressman. Doubles were made to order at the time of writing, with delivery taking several weeks, so order early if you need it by a set date.

Pros
  • Mini pocket springs in the pillow top
  • Cashmere and silk fillings
  • Top of Relyon's Classic Naturals line
  • Exchange possible at Mattressman (fee applies)
Cons
  • Dearest no-turn double on this page
  • Too soft on top for most front sleepers

Best value

Relyon Chelsea 1500 Memory

For a Relyon at well under £600 in a double, choose the Chelsea 1500 Memory. A deep layer of memory foam over 1,500 pocket springs gives a medium-firm, close-fitting feel that suits back and front sleepers, and there is no wool or other animal fibre inside, which is why MattressNextDay labels it vegan friendly.

The double is £529, and every size was in stock for next-day delivery when we checked. Memory foam holds more body heat than wool, so warm sleepers are better off with a natural-filled model from this list.

Pros
  • Memory foam over 1,500 pocket springs
  • Vegan friendly, no animal fibres
  • Every size in stock for next-day delivery
  • Knitted cover with side air vents
Cons
  • Sold only through MattressNextDay
  • Harder to change position on than a spring top

Relyon Braemar
Relyon BraemarRelyon BraemarRelyon Braemar
Best two-sided mattress

Relyon Braemar

The Braemar is Relyon at its most traditional. Its 1,400 springs are hand-nested and tied with linen cord, under layers of cotton, cashmere, silk and West Country lambswool, and it is made to be turned, so both faces share the wear.

That build carries a 15-year guarantee, the longest of any mattress on this page, in return for weekly turning in the first three months. MattressNextDay sells it as the Braemar Edge+ in a medium tension at £1,049 for a double, which makes it the dearest Relyon here. Buy it if you want a mattress built to last and do not mind looking after it.

Pros
  • Hand-nested springs tied with linen cord
  • Cotton, cashmere, silk and lambswool
  • Two rows of hand side stitching
  • Both sides share the wear
Cons
  • Weekly turning in the first three months
  • No single size at MattressNextDay

Best budget pick

Relyon Guildford 1000

British wool and silk over 1,000 pocket springs for £399 in a double make the Guildford 1000 the cheapest way into Relyon's natural fillings. It is a medium, no-turn mattress, 25cm deep, with Relyon's Edge+ reinforced border.

The lower spring count is the compromise. Average-weight sleepers will not miss much, but couples with a big difference in weight get more independent support from higher-spring models such as the Natural Luxury Supreme 2150 or the Luxury Pashmina 2350.

Pros
  • British wool and silk at an entry price
  • Cheapest double on this page
  • Side air vents, hypoallergenic per MattressNextDay
Cons
  • 1,000 springs, the fewest here
  • Doubles take three to four weeks
  • Slimmest mattress in this ranking at 25cm

Recommended for couples

Relyon Luxury Pashmina 2350

The Luxury Pashmina 2350 is built for sharing. Its 2,350 springs in a king include firmer springs along the sides, so the border holds up when you sit or sleep near it and two people can use the full width of the bed, while independent springs keep one partner's movement from reaching the other.

Mattressman had the double in stock at £849 when we checked.

Pros
  • 2,350 springs with firm edge springs
  • Pashmina and wool comfort layer
  • Three rows of side stitching
Cons
  • Plainer top than the pillow-top models

Best firm option

Relyon Heyford Ortho 1500

For back and front sleepers who like a firm bed, or heavier sleepers who sink through softer mattresses, the Heyford Ortho 1500 is the Relyon to buy. Relyon builds the firmness from 1,500 pocket springs and deep cotton layers over a Superflex foam layer, and the mattress is 32cm deep and two-sided.

At £829 for a double from Mattressman, it costs less than the other two Classic models we rank, the Luxury Silk 2850 and the Luxury Pashmina 2350.

Pros
  • Firm feel from springs and cotton
  • Two-sided for a longer life
  • Deep 32cm build for heavier sleepers
Cons
  • Too firm for most side sleepers

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“Judge a Relyon by its spring count, its fillings and whether it needs turning, because several retailers sell Relyon mattresses under names of their own.”

No-turn or two-sided

Start here, because this choice splits the Relyon range in two. Most models on this page are no-turn. They have one sleeping side and only need rotating head to toe, weekly for the first three months and every three months after that. The Braemar and the Heyford Ortho 1500 are two-sided, and Relyon’s care advice is to turn and rotate them once a week for the first three months, then once a month. Turning shares the settling of the natural fillings between both faces, but a double Relyon is heavy and awkward to flip on your own. If nobody in your house will do it, buy a no-turn model. Relyon’s care advice also confirms that a Relyon can go on a slatted frame as long as the slats are no more than 7cm apart.

What more springs and better fillings buy

Relyon names most models after the number of pocket springs in a king size, so the Guildford 1000 has 1,000, counted the way most 1,000 pocket sprung mattresses are, and the Luxury Silk 2850 has 2,850. More springs let the surface follow your shoulders and hips more closely and stop two sleepers rolling together. How the springs are made matters as much as how many there are. The National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice UK guide sets out the benchmark: “Better-quality pocket springs are encased in calico pockets, hand-nested in a honeycomb pattern and centre-tied with linen cord.” That is how Relyon builds its Heritage mattresses such as the Braemar, and it explains much of their higher price. If a Relyon is over budget, cheaper spring mattresses from other brands are in our pocket sprung ranking.

The fillings decide how the mattress feels and how warm it sleeps. Wool, silk, cashmere and pashmina breathe and draw moisture away from the body, so they suit warm sleepers and keep the bed comfortable through the year. Memory foam, used in the Chelsea 1500 Memory, moulds closely to your body but holds more heat. A pillow top adds a separate soft layer on top, which side sleepers usually like and some back sleepers find too soft.

Pick the feel for how you sleep

Side sleepers need the shoulder and hip to sink in a little, so a medium mattress with a pillow top, the Natural Luxury Supreme 2150 or the Luxury Silk 2850, is the safest choice, and our side sleeper ranking lists softer models from other makers. Back and front sleepers usually do better on medium-firm, like the Chelsea. Heavier sleepers and anyone who likes a hard bed should look at the Heyford Ortho 1500, or at the wider choice of firm mattresses. Each retailer on this page sells a model in one tension only, so the model you pick sets the feel. If no Relyon suits you, Hypnos, Harrison Spinks and Sleepeezee are the other British makers of sprung, natural-filled mattresses, Slumberland sells a wool Naturals range through Bensons, and the best mattresses ranking covers every type.

Check the retailer’s terms as well as the price

Relyon sells only through stockists (the company’s history and ownership are on our Relyon brand page), and some stockists sell versions of their own. The Chelsea, the Guildford and the Natural Luxury Supreme are MattressNextDay models you will not find on Relyon’s website. Returns terms differ as much as the names. At MattressNextDay you can cancel within 14 working days of delivery only if the mattress is unopened and unused, and you pay for the return. Mattressman lets you exchange a mattress bought with one of its protectors between nights 30 and 60, for a £50 fee. Neither retailer offers a money-back sleep trial on these Relyon models. If you are unsure about a feel, lie on the model in a shop before you order.

Methodology

How we rate

We ranked the Relyon mattresses you can order online in the UK today, picked to cover every part of the range, from no-turn natural models and two pillow tops to a memory foam hybrid, a two-sided Heritage mattress, a budget model and a firm orthopaedic option. Construction details come from Relyon’s spec sheets where a model appears on relyon.co.uk, and from the retailer’s product page for models a retailer sells under its own name. Prices are the regular selling prices at MattressNextDay and Mattressman, checked in October 2026, before any voucher code.

Each mattress carries our overall score, which weights comfort at 30%, support at 25%, temperature at 15% and value at 30%. On a Relyon, comfort and temperature depend mostly on the fillings and how deep they are, support on the spring count and the edge construction, and value on the price of a double set against the springs, fillings, guarantee and the retailer’s returns terms. When two models score the same, the cheaper double ranks higher.

We left out the Luxury Wool 2150, because Mattressman charges more for it in a double than for the Luxury Pashmina 2350, which has more springs and firmer edge support. The Heritage Balmoral is not ranked, as neither MattressNextDay nor Mattress Online lists it; see the Braemar and Balmoral question below.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Relyon mattress is best?

The Relyon Natural Luxury Supreme 2150 Pillow Top is the best Relyon for most people. It is a no-turn, medium mattress with a wool and silk pillow top over 2,150 pocket springs, at £819 for a double. Side sleepers who want more cushioning should choose the Luxury Silk 2850, while the Chelsea 1500 Memory gives the most for the money and the Guildford 1000 is the cheapest double.

Are Relyon mattresses any good?

Yes, Relyon still builds its mattresses by hand in Somerset, and buyers rate them highly, with the Chelsea 1500 Memory on 4.9 out of 5 from 54 MattressNextDay reviews in October 2026. The complaint you will meet in some reviews, dips where you lie, is the natural fillings settling, which Bed Advice UK calls a normal characteristic of quality mattresses that regular rotating keeps to a minimum.

Who owns Relyon now?

Relyon Beds Ltd, which still runs the original factory in Wellington, Somerset. A company set up by former Relyon chief executive Ian Topping and private investors bought the business out of administration in August 2020, and according to Furniture News the deal saved 280 jobs and also included the Dunlopillo mattress brand name.

Where can you buy a Relyon mattress?

Relyon does not sell direct, so you buy from a stockist. Online, MattressNextDay and Mattressman sell the models ranked here, Mattress Online carries several models from the Classic collection, and Dreams sells Relyon latex mattresses made with Dunlopillo latex. Many independent furniture shops stock the brand too, and Relyon's stockist finder lists them.

Is there a Relyon mattress sale or clearance worth waiting for?

Each stockist sets its own Relyon prices, so sales are set by each retailer. MattressNextDay shows a much higher RRP struck through on every Relyon we checked, £1,759 for a Braemar double against a selling price of £1,049 in October 2026, so compare the selling price at each shop and ignore the size of the saving.

What is the difference between the Relyon Braemar and Balmoral?

Both are two-sided Heritage mattresses with hand-nested springs and a 15-year guarantee, but the Balmoral is the deeper, springier one, with two layers of calico pocket springs (2,000 in a king against the Braemar's 1,400) and a wool, cotton and hair filling. It is also the heavier of the two, so it takes more effort to turn.

Do Relyon mattresses come rolled in a box?

No. Every Relyon on this page is delivered flat, and the larger sizes are a two-person carry, since a king Natural Luxury Supreme 2150 weighs 56kg according to MattressNextDay. Tell the retailer about narrow stairs before you order, and ask whether delivery to your bedroom is included.
