The Silentnight UltraGel 1000 Pocket is a 28cm hybrid mattress with a gel-infused comfort layer and breathable foam over 1000 Mirapocket springs, rated medium/firm and priced from £479 for a single. It is the 1000-spring pocket model of Silentnight’s UltraGel range and sits between the fibre-topped Comfort Breathe mattresses and the premium Cool-to-touch 3000.

How the UltraGel 1000 is built

The Silentnight product page describes UltraGel as a comfort layer that gives under you and then springs back, so turning over takes less effort than on slow-recovery memory foam. Silentnight claims the foam is 5 times more breathable than standard memory foam.

Layer, top to bottom What Silentnight uses What it does
Cover Quilted fabric with side handles Soft surface, easier turning and rotating
Comfort layer UltraGel gel-infused layer with breathable foam Pressure relief with quick bounce-back
Support 1000 Mirapocket pocket springs, firmer centre Zoned support, movement isolation

Firmness and temperature

Both the headline and the firmness block say medium firm, and we score it 6 out of 10. That is the band with the best evidence for back comfort: in a Lancet trial of 313 adults with chronic low back pain (Kovacs et al., 2003), medium-firm mattresses beat firm ones on pain in bed and disability after 90 days.

Gel and open-cell foam are Silentnight’s answer to the heat problem of memory foam, and heat is worth avoiding: a review by Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno (2012) found heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces deep and REM sleep. The UltraGel 1000 has no cool-to-touch fabric, though, which is one of the things the 3000 adds.

Sizes and prices

UK size Dimensions (cm) Price at Silentnight
Single 90 x 190 £479
Small double 120 x 190 £629
Double 135 x 190 £629
King 150 x 200 £759
Super king 180 x 200 £919

Prices are Silentnight’s regular prices, checked in September 2026. Each mattress is made to order in the UK with delivery aimed within 14 days, and the guarantee lasts 5 years. Under Silentnight’s comfort exchange you can trade it for another Silentnight mattress between night 28 and night 60, provided you ordered on silentnight.co.uk; a refund is not part of the deal. Removal of your old mattress costs £30 when booked with delivery.

Against its neighbours, the UltraGel 1000 costs the same as the Memory Pocket 2000 in every size, which buys you twice the springs and a pillowtop but memory foam instead of gel. Choose the UltraGel 1000 if you want a livelier, cooler-feeling surface; choose the Memory 2000 if deep cushioning matters more.

For couples the springs matter as much as the gel: pocket springs move independently, so one partner turning over disturbs the other less than on an open-coil mattress.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The UltraGel 1000 is a good fit for couples and warm sleepers who want a bouncier, foam-topped hybrid that moves with them rather than a slow-sinking memory foam. If airflow is all you need and price matters, the fibre-topped Comfort Breathe 1000 costs less in every size.”
