John Lewis CloudGel 3000 Pocket Spring Mattress im Test

The John Lewis CloudGel 3000 is a 27 cm, medium-tension hybrid that puts gel-infused foam and a layer of mini springs on top of a pocket spring unit. It is the softest and most layered of the three CloudGel models, aimed at side sleepers who run warm, and a Double costs £1,299 (October 2026).

How it is built

According to the John Lewis product page, the comfort layer is CloudGel foam with three zones, firmer in the centre under the hips and lower back and softer at the shoulders and legs. Beneath it come a layer of mini pocket springs, a high-density polyester layer and the main pocket spring unit, 2,772 springs in total in a Double. The cover is a knitted bamboo blend. John Lewis says the open foam structure and the bamboo cover help regulate temperature; that is the maker’s claim, and the spec sheet gives no measured figure for it.

Care and limits

Two details on the spec sheet matter before you buy. The listed maximum user weight is 127 kg, lower than the 200 kg of the Ortho Pocket models. And the mattress is rotate-only, but the care instructions ask for a head-to-foot rotation every week for the first three months, then monthly.

It is made in the UK with a 7-year guarantee, and standard delivery costs £19.95. The 60-Night Comfort Trial applies, with one exchange allowed between night 30 and night 60 if you bought a mattress protector in the same order.

Drawbacks

With five customer reviews at the time of writing, the model has little track record yet. The weight limit rules it out for some heavier sleepers, and a Double costs well over the Waitrose Wool 1600 for a different, foam-topped feel rather than better support. If you want the CloudGel feel for less, the firm CloudGel 1000 and the medium-to-firm CloudGel 2000 share the gel foam and bamboo cover with fewer springs.
