Layer names and functions come from DreamCloud’s UK product page, which states that one viscoelastic foam and two further foams are CertiPUR certified and that the mattress is ClimatePartner certified. That is the band the research favours: a systematic review of 24 controlled trials in Sleep Health (Radwan et al., 2015) concluded that a medium-firm mattress, ideally one the sleeper can adjust, is optimal for sleep comfort, sleep quality and spinal alignment. The memory foam cushions a side sleeper’s shoulder, the support foam stops the hips of back and front sleepers dropping, and wrapped coils keep a partner’s movement from travelling across the bed.

The 365-night home trial starts on delivery. DreamCloud suggests allowing 30 nights to adjust, and collects the mattress free of charge if you return it. The Forever Warranty covers faults in workmanship and materials for as long as you own the mattress, with a new mattress within the first 10 years and repair after that. Named-day delivery is free. Removal of your old mattress, bundled with premium delivery to the room of your choice, costs £60.
