Comparison

Best Silentnight mattress toppers

The best Silentnight mattress topper depends on what your mattress lacks, because the hollowfibre Airmax and Deep Sleep toppers add softness and airflow while the Impress and Wellbeing Cool Touch memory foam toppers add pressure relief. Depth decides how much the bed changes, from a slim 3cm Airmax 300 to the 10cm Airmax 1000, and the UK sizes on sale differ from model to model and between silentnight.co.uk and Argos. This comparison of the Silentnight mattress topper range sets filling, depth, warmth, washing and price per size side by side, and is clear about the one thing no topper can do, which is rescue a mattress that already sags.

Silentnight Airmax 1000 Extra Deep Mattress Topper

For most buyers the Silentnight Airmax 1000 is the one to start with, adding 10cm of dual-layer hollowfibre with air-mesh sides for £38 in a double. Mumsnet scored it 79 out of 100 after six weeks on an eight-year-old mattress, noting its breathability. Silentnight did not sell it in super king when we checked, and like every fibre topper it softens a bed rather than supporting it.

Pros
  • 10cm, the deepest Airmax
  • Air-mesh sides vent warm air
  • Single, double and king on sale
  • Mumsnet review score of 79/100
Cons
  • No super king at Silentnight
  • Hollowfibre needs regular shaking out
  • 40°C wash, below the mite-killing 60°C

Silentnight Airmax Mattress Topper

Silentnight's 8cm Airmax, which its own product copy also calls the Airmax 800, is the cheapest way into the Airmax range in a king at £41, with the same dual-layer hollowfibre and air-mesh sides as the Airmax 1000. Silentnight rates its feel medium, and the cover washes at 40°C. The brand itself sold only king and super king when we checked, so buyers of a single or double will need another retailer such as Argos.

Pros
  • 8cm dual-layer hollowfibre
  • Cheapest Airmax in king size
  • Medium feel, rated by Silentnight
  • Cover washable at 40°C
Cons
  • Only king and super king at Silentnight
  • No pressure relief, reviewers found
  • Fibre compresses between shakes

Silentnight Wellbeing Cool Touch Mattress Topper

Hot sleepers who want memory foam should look at the Silentnight Wellbeing Cool Touch, the only topper in the range that puts responsive foam, 8cm of it, under a moisture-wicking Coolmax fabric with EcoBreathe fibre channels. At £149 for a double it costs about three times as much as the Airmax 1000, and it comes in double, king and super king only. Buy it for the contouring foam first, because a cooling fabric reduces the extra warmth of memory foam without removing it.

Pros
  • 8cm of responsive memory foam
  • Coolmax fabric wicks moisture away
  • EcoBreathe channels for airflow
  • Double cut oversize at 137x190
Cons
  • Dearest topper in this ranking
  • No single size
  • Foam still sleeps warmer than fibre

Softest feel

Silentnight Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 Mattress Topper

Anyone who wants a bed to feel clearly softer gets the most from the Silentnight Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000, which Silentnight rates soft and fills with 10cm of quilted hollowfibre held in place by internal walls. It is also the only model on sale in all five UK sizes including small double, from £37 for a single. Front sleepers and anyone on a sagging mattress should skip it, because 10cm of soft fibre lets the hips sink.

Pros
  • Rated soft by Silentnight
  • All five UK sizes, small double too
  • Internal walls stop the fill shifting
  • Machine-washable microfibre cover
Cons
  • Too soft for most front sleepers
  • Fibre flattens where you lie
  • No air-mesh sides

Easy-care fibre

Silentnight Hotel Collection 10cm Mattress Topper

Argos shoppers will find the Silentnight Hotel Collection 10cm on the Habitat site rather than at silentnight.co.uk, a 10cm hollowfibre topper with a microfibre cover, made in the UK. A king costs £77, about half as much again as the Airmax 1000 in the same size, and Habitat lists it as machine washable and tumble-dryer safe. It has no air-mesh sides, so expect it to sleep warmer than an Airmax.

Pros
  • 10cm of hollowfibre filling
  • Machine washable, tumble-dryer safe
  • Made in the UK
  • Single to super king at Habitat
Cons
  • Not sold at silentnight.co.uk
  • No air-mesh sides for airflow
  • Dearer than the Airmax 1000 in king

Budget soft layer

Silentnight Deep Sleep Ultimate 500 Mattress Topper

On a budget, the Silentnight Deep Sleep Ultimate 500 is the 5cm version of the Deep Sleep 1000, quilted fibre held by internal walls, and at £32 for a single it has the lowest regular single price in this ranking. At 5cm it changes a bed less than the 10cm models, which suits a mattress that is only slightly too firm.

Pros
  • Lowest single price in this ranking
  • Internal walls keep the fill in place
  • Single to super king at Silentnight
Cons
  • 5cm softens less than 10cm models
  • No wash temperature stated
  • No air-mesh sides

Natural filling

Silentnight Ultimate Luxury Hungarian Goose Feather and Down Mattress Topper

Only one Silentnight topper here uses a natural filling, the Ultimate Luxury feather and down, with Responsible Down Standard certified filling in a percale cotton cover, crafted in the UK. A double costs £120 at its regular price. It is not for feather allergy sufferers or vegans, and Silentnight's own page names goose in the title but duck in the specification table.

Pros
  • RDS-certified feather and down
  • Percale cotton cover
  • Crafted in the UK
  • Machine washable up to 40°C
Cons
  • Goose or duck, the page disagrees
  • Not for feather allergies

Budget memory foam

Silentnight Impress 5cm Memory Foam Mattress Topper

Memory foam costs less in the Silentnight Impress 5cm, a 5cm layer of soft, reactive foam in a removable, machine-washable cover, made in the UK. It costs £95 in a king, and Silentnight sold only king and super king when we checked. It moulds to shoulders and hips in a way the hollowfibre Airmax toppers cannot, but it sleeps warmer and scores lower on value than the fibre models above it.

Pros
  • 5cm of reactive memory foam
  • Contours rather than just softens
  • Removable machine-washable cover
  • Made in the UK
Cons
  • King and super king only at Silentnight
  • Sleeps warmer than fibre

Cold sleepers

Silentnight Heat Genie Self Heating Mattress Topper

Cold sleepers get up to 7.5 tog of extra warmth without electricity from the Silentnight Heat Genie, which uses a heat-reflecting foil and a thermal lining under a quilted top. A double costs £40. At about 2cm deep according to its Argos listing it adds warmth rather than cushioning, so take it off when the weather turns mild.

Pros
  • Up to 7.5 tog of added warmth
  • No plug and no running cost
  • Single, double and king on sale
  • Soft quilted top layer
Cons
  • Too warm outside winter
  • About 2cm, little cushioning
  • Wrong choice for hot sleepers

Slim refresh layer

Silentnight Airmax 300 Mattress Topper

At 3cm, the Silentnight Airmax 300 is the slimmest Airmax, a breathable refresh layer for a mattress you already like rather than a way to soften it. Silentnight rates it medium, which suits back and front sleepers who do not want to sink. In a king it costs £50, more than the 8cm Airmax, so buy it only if you specifically want the thin profile.

Pros
  • 3cm, barely changes bed height
  • Same air-mesh sides as deeper Airmax
  • Suits back and front sleepers
  • Hypoallergenic hollowfibre
Cons
  • Dearer than the 8cm Airmax in king
  • Too thin to soften a firm mattress
  • King and super king only at Silentnight

Buying advice

What to look for when buying

“Choose a Silentnight topper by depth and filling, not by the name on the bag. Fibre makes a firm bed softer and cooler, memory foam relieves pressure, and neither will rescue a mattress that has started to dip.”

Which Airmax depth to choose

Silentnight sells its Airmax topper in three depths, and depth decides how much your bed changes. The Airmax 300 is 3cm, the Airmax (which Silentnight’s own product copy also calls the Airmax 800) is 8cm and the Airmax 1000 is 10cm, all built from a dual layer of hollowfibre with air-mesh side walls. A 3cm layer refreshes the surface of a mattress you already like, while 8cm to 10cm makes a firm mattress clearly softer. Independent reviewers agree on the limit of the design. Expert Reviews wrote of the 5cm Airmax sold at Argos that “this topper doesn’t add any support at all”, and Ideal Home found that it “can’t offer the cushioning or support of a memory foam topper”. Price does not rise with depth either. In a king, the 8cm Airmax costs £41 against £50 for the 3cm Airmax 300 at Silentnight’s regular prices.

Hollowfibre or memory foam

Fibre and foam solve different problems. Making a firm mattress softer is the job the hollowfibre Airmax and Deep Sleep toppers do, at the lowest prices in the range. Silentnight also makes the Extra Full, a machine-washable fibre topper sold in B&M stores rather than online, which leads our B&M mattress topper reviews. The Impress 5cm and the Wellbeing Cool Touch use memory foam, which moulds to the shoulders and hips and spreads pressure in a way loose fibre cannot, so a side sleeper who wakes with a sore hip gets more from 5cm to 8cm of foam than from 10cm of fibre. Foam costs more, £95 for an Impress king against £42 for an Airmax 1000, and it holds more heat. Neither type fixes a worn mattress, and if yours already sags, a new mattress is the better spend. The National Bed Federation recommends replacing a mattress every seven to eight years, and its 2019 consumer research, reported by Furniture News, found owners were replacing theirs every 6.9 years on average.

Hot sleepers and cold sleepers

Temperature is where the Silentnight range splits most clearly. A review of sleep and the thermal environment by Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology (2012) found that heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces slow wave and REM sleep, and that normal sleep goes with a bed climate of about 32°C to 34°C. The Airmax toppers vent warm air through their mesh sides, and the Mumsnet reviewer reported fewer nights waking up overheated on the Airmax 1000. The Wellbeing Cool Touch adds a moisture-wicking Coolmax surface to 8cm of foam, which narrows the gap with fibre rather than closing it. The Heat Genie works the other way round, reflecting body heat back through a foil layer to add up to 7.5 tog, so it belongs on the bed in winter only. For electric warmth, Silentnight’s dual-zone Comfort Control heated topper is sold through Tesco Marketplace and ranked in our Tesco mattress topper comparison.

Washing, allergies and returns

Silentnight describes most of these toppers as hypoallergenic, but a hypoallergenic filling is not a dust-mite treatment. Allergy UK’s house dust mite factsheet states that “Washing at 60 degrees centigrade or above will kill mites”, and warns that lower temperatures only wash the allergen away for a while. Where a wash temperature is stated for the toppers ranked here, it is 40°C, and Habitat lists the Hotel Collection 10cm as machine washable and tumble-dryer safe without giving a temperature, so allergy sufferers should add a protector that washes at 60°C. Our best mattress protectors comparison lists the options. Check the returns position before you open the bag, too. Silentnight’s returns policy refunds within 14 days of receipt and takes bedding back only unopened, and its 60-night comfort exchange covers mattresses, not toppers, so once the bag is open, a topper you simply dislike cannot go back.

Methodology

How we rate

This ranking compares ten Silentnight toppers. Nine are sold by Silentnight itself: five hollowfibre models (Airmax 300, Airmax, Airmax 1000, Deep Sleep Ultimate 500 and Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000), two memory foam models (Impress 5cm and Wellbeing Cool Touch), a feather and down topper and the non-electric Heat Genie. The tenth, the Hotel Collection 10cm, is a Silentnight topper sold through Argos and its Habitat site rather than silentnight.co.uk. Filling, depth, firmness ratings, care and guarantees come from each model’s product page. Prices and the sizes actually on sale were read from each seller’s size selector on 28 September 2026 and are shown at regular prices, not the autumn promotions. Silentnight gives no depth for the Heat Genie, so we use its Argos listing.

Each topper carries our overall score out of 10, weighted 30% comfort, 25% support, 15% temperature and 30% value. For a topper, comfort follows depth and filling, support reflects how well the layer resists bottoming out (foam above fibre), temperature rewards air-mesh sides and breathable covers and marks down solid foam, and value sets the king-size price against the depth you get. Independent reviews informed the comfort and temperature judgements. Expert Reviews and Ideal Home reviewed the 5cm version of the Airmax, and Mumsnet scored the Airmax 1000 at 79 out of 100 after six weeks of use. The order follows our scores, and where two toppers tie, the one sold in more sizes ranks higher.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Silentnight mattress topper is best?

The Silentnight Airmax 1000 is the best Silentnight topper for most people, adding 10cm of breathable hollowfibre for £38 in a double. If you want pressure relief rather than just softness, the Wellbeing Cool Touch puts 8cm of memory foam under a cooling Coolmax surface, from £149 for a double.

Is a Silent Night topper the same as Silentnight?

Yes, Silent Night is a common misspelling of Silentnight, the British bed and bedding maker based in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, which writes its name as one word. Every topper on this page carries the Silentnight name, whether you buy it at silentnight.co.uk or from retailers such as Argos and Habitat.

What is the difference between the Airmax 300, Airmax and Airmax 1000?

The three Silentnight Airmax toppers differ in depth, with the Airmax 300 at 3cm, the Airmax at 8cm and the Airmax 1000 at 10cm, and all three use dual-layer hollowfibre with air-mesh sides. At Silentnight's regular king-size prices they cost £50, £41 and £42 respectively, so the thinnest is not the cheapest.

Is the Silentnight Airmax 800 the same as the Airmax topper?

Yes, the Airmax 800 is the 8cm Silentnight Airmax Mattress Topper, and Silentnight's own product description uses that name. It costs £41 in a king and £45 in a super king, the only two sizes Silentnight had on sale when we checked in September 2026.

Is a Silentnight memory foam topper better than the Airmax?

A Silentnight memory foam topper is better for pressure relief, and the Airmax is better for softness, airflow and price. The Impress 5cm and Wellbeing Cool Touch contour to the shoulders and hips, while reviewers at Expert Reviews and Ideal Home found the Airmax adds cushioning but no support. In a king the Impress 5cm costs £95 against £42 for the Airmax 1000.

Can you wash a Silentnight mattress topper?

Most Silentnight toppers can go in the washing machine, and where Silentnight or a retailer states a temperature for the toppers ranked here, it is 40°C, as on the feather and down topper. The Hotel Collection 10cm sold at Argos and Habitat is also listed as tumble-dryer safe. None reaches the 60°C that Allergy UK says kills dust mites, so allergy sufferers should pair the topper with a mattress protector that washes hotter.

Is a Silentnight mattress protector the same as a mattress topper?

No, a mattress protector is a thin cover that guards against spills and allergens, while a Silentnight topper is a comfort layer, 3cm to 10cm deep in the Airmax range, that changes how the bed feels. Silentnight sells its protectors as a separate range, and our best mattress protectors comparison ranks the current UK options.

Do Silentnight toppers come in a small double?

At Silentnight, only the Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 is sold in small double (120x190), at £47. It is also the only model in this ranking on sale in all five UK sizes, from single to super king, while the Hotel Collection 10cm and Deep Sleep Ultimate 500 come in four sizes without a small double.
