Silentnight Wellbeing Cool Touch Mattress Topper reviewed

The Silentnight Wellbeing Cool Touch Mattress Topper is an 8cm memory foam topper in a Coolmax outer fabric, sold in double, king and super king from £149. It is Silentnight’s answer for people who like the contouring of memory foam but find it too warm.

How it is made

The Silentnight product page pairs responsive memory foam with a Coolmax cover and EcoBreathe fibre channels that wick moisture away from the body. Silentnight describes overheating as a common cause of disturbed sleep, and the research agrees: a review by Okamoto-Mizuno and Mizuno (2012) found that heat exposure increases wakefulness and reduces deep and REM sleep, with normal sleep at a bed climate of about 32 to 34°C.

Feel

Eight centimetres of foam changes how a mattress feels far more than a 2 to 5cm layer does, and we rate the result medium-soft, 4 out of 10. That makes it a strong choice for side sleepers with pressure at the shoulder. Memory foam softens with body heat and moulds to your shape, and it can feel warmer to lie on, which is the problem the Coolmax cover is meant to offset rather than remove.

Sizes and prices

Prices are Silentnight’s regular prices, checked in September 2026. Silentnight gives the actual dimensions as 137 x 190, 153 x 203 and 183 x 203cm, slightly over the bed sizes, which helps the corners stay put. The dimension table also shows a single, but it is not on sale. Delivery takes 2 to 3 working days and the topper carries a 2-year guarantee.

The main weakness is price. At this level you are close to the cost of a new budget mattress, so the Cool Touch makes most sense on a mattress that still supports you well but feels too firm or too warm.

Returns are the other thing to check. Silentnight’s 60-night comfort exchange covers mattresses only, and Silentnight takes bedding back only when it is unopened. If you are unsure whether you like memory foam, a cheaper fibre topper is the lower-risk first step.
