Silentnight Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 Mattress Topper reviewed

The Silentnight Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 Mattress Topper is a 10cm quilted fibre topper with a soft microfibre cover, rated soft by Silentnight and sold in all five UK sizes from £37 for a single. It is the cheapest deep topper in the Silentnight range and the only one in small double.

Construction

The Silentnight product page describes an extra-deep topper with internal walls that keep the filling plump, a breathable microfibre cover and easy-fit straps.

Feel

Silentnight rates it soft and aims it at lighter and smaller sleepers, and we score it 3 out of 10. A 10cm fibre topper is the most direct way to make a firm mattress softer on a budget. The trade-off is posture: the best trial evidence for back pain favours medium-firm surfaces (Kovacs et al., The Lancet, 2003, 313 adults), so heavier sleepers or those with back pain may find a soft 10cm layer lets the hips drop too far.

Prices are Silentnight’s regular prices, checked in September 2026, with no promotion running. Delivery takes 2 to 3 working days and there is a 2-year guarantee.

Plan on shaking it out regularly, as hollowfibre compresses where you lie. And if the mattress underneath is past the 7 to 8 years the National Bed Federation recommends, a topper will only hide the problem for a while.

How it compares

Within Silentnight’s fibre toppers, the Deep Sleep Ultimate 1000 is the softest and among the cheapest for its depth. The 10cm Airmax 1000 is its closest rival: similar depth and price, but with mesh sides for airflow rather than a microfibre cover. Choose the Deep Sleep for maximum softness and small-double availability, the Airmax if you sleep warm.

Simon Williams of the National Bed Federation, commenting on its consumer research, put the trend plainly: “It would seem that a growing number of consumers are replacing their mattresses every seven years.” A topper is a cheap way to adjust comfort within that cycle, not a way to stretch it.
