The Hypnos Pillow Top Elite is a 31cm single-sided pillow top mattress that layers Adaptiv comfort springs, British wool and Talalay latex above a six-turn pocket spring unit, and it is the most expensive Hypnos in our comparisons at £2,679 for a double at Bed Factory Direct (September 2026). It is one of four models in the Hypnos Pillow Top collection and is built for people who want to sink into the surface rather than lie on it.

What is inside, from the top down

Layer Material What it does
Cover Cotton damask with a naturally derived fire-retardant treatment Sleep surface
Pillow top Adaptiv comfort springs, British wool, Talalay latex Soft, contouring upper layer
Comfort layer Natural Talalay latex Resilient cushioning that recovers quickly
Fillings Up to two fleeces of RWS-certified British wool, Himalayan allo, kapok, eOlus recycled fibre Moisture control and airflow
Support 6-turn ReActivePro pocket springs with Triple Edge Protection Support to the edge of the mattress

The layer list comes from the Hypnos specification as published for the UK, and three rows of hand side-stitching finish the border. The wool is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard, which audits farms against animal welfare and land management requirements. On fire safety, every mattress sold in the UK must meet the ignitability tests in the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988; Hypnos meets them here with a cover treatment derived from natural extracts rather than conventional flame-retardant chemicals.

Hypnos describes the feel as softer and builds it in medium and firmer spring tensions. We place it at 3 out of 10. Bed Factory Direct’s own specification table calls it medium firm, so the two sources disagree, and a pillow top of this depth is the kind of mattress worth trying in a showroom first. Our reading of the construction is soft: two layers of latex and a layer of mini springs above the main unit give plenty of give at the shoulder and hip. That makes it a natural fit for side sleepers and lighter people, while front sleepers are likely to find their hips sink too far.

Because the pillow top is sewn to one face, the mattress is rotated rather than turned, which removes the seasonal flip the Wool Origins models need. Hypnos gives 39.3kg for a double and 46.0kg for a king. The weakness is value. A double costs noticeably more than a Wool Origins 10 double, and the generous fillings settle where you lie. The Hypnos FAQ treats that settling as normal and asks for regular rotation to even it out, and the guarantee terms on the same page exclude a mattress that has not been rotated as recommended. Bed Factory Direct delivers free in four to six weeks and lists no sleep trial.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“We recommend the Pillow Top Elite to side sleepers who want a soft, deeply cushioned Hypnos and never want to flip a mattress again. At 31cm with two latex layers it is too yielding for most front sleepers, and the Wool Origins 10 gives more for less if plushness is not the priority.”
