Starlight Beds Harmony 3-Layer Cooling Foam Mattress reviewed

The Starlight Beds Harmony is a 20cm firm all-foam mattress made in the UK, topped with cool blue memory foam and finished in a zipped cover that comes off for the washing machine. A 4ft6 double costs £246.99 direct from Starlight Beds.

What is inside

Starlight’s product page describes three foams, and its layer diagram gives their depths. The base is eco foam made from offcuts of Starlight’s own production, which the company says would otherwise have gone to landfill.

The washable cover and dust mites

Starlight says that removing and washing the cover regularly helps reduce the build-up of dust mites and allergens, which is the honest way to put it: a cover you can wash is a cleaning aid, not an allergy cure. The NHS advice on allergic rhinitis recommends synthetic bedding and covers washed at 60C or above for people with a dust mite allergy. The Harmony is fully synthetic, but Starlight does not print a cover washing temperature, so check the care label first.

Feel and who it suits

Starlight sells it as firm, and with 25mm of memory foam over firm reflex foam it gives back and front sleepers an even, flat support. Lighter side sleepers may find too little give at the shoulder. The cool blue memory foam is Starlight’s answer to the warm feel of foam mattresses; it is the maker’s claim, and foam still sleeps warmer than an open spring unit.

Returns

There is no sleep trial. Starlight’s refund policy lets you return a mattress only while it is still sealed in its plastic, and you pay the return carriage. The product page states no warranty period.
