The Truecore Hybrid 2000 is the most searched mattress in Jay-Be’s range and the one the brand puts forward first. Jay-Be makes it at its own factory in the UK and sells it direct and through retailers.

The support comes from two spring layers: 1,000 deep pocket springs at the base and 1,000 Micro e-Pocket springs near the top. Between and above them sit high-density e-Fibre insulator and foundation layers, a breathable Rebound e-Fibre layer and a quilted layer of soft Advance e-Fibre under a knitted OEKO-TEX certified cover. The border is a 3D mesh fabric and the mattress is 23 cm deep.

Jay-Be rates it medium-firm, which we score at 6 out of 10. The micro springs give a gentle, cushioned surface while the deeper springs keep the hips level, so back and side sleepers are both well served. Because there is no foam at all, air moves freely through the fibre layers and it sleeps noticeably cooler than a memory foam hybrid.

It arrives vacuum packed and rolled, and the fibres are made from recycled plastic bottles. The weak point is the feel: fibre fillings lack the slow, deep hug of foam, so people who want to sink into their mattress may find it too lively.

Specification and sources

The product page confirms the 1,000 Micro e-Pocket springs over 1,000 deep pocket springs, the 23cm depth and Jay-Be’s medium-firm rating. The cover fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, and Jay-Be’s guarantee page gives all pocket sprung mattresses a 10-year guarantee.

Within the range, the Truecore Firm Hybrid 2200 costs the same and swaps the deep layer for 1,200 firmer springs, while the Bio Fresh, Bio Cool and Natural models keep the 2,000-spring system and add treated covers or natural fibre fillings at a higher price.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Truecore Hybrid 2000 is a well-built, fairly priced hybrid, and its foam-free build is a real advantage if you run hot or want to avoid foam. We would choose it for couples and back sleepers, and point anyone who wants a soft, enveloping feel towards a memory foam model instead.”
