The OTTY Natural Origin is a double-sided, 28cm pocket-sprung mattress handmade in the UK, with cotton, polyester and wool felt fillings over up to 2,000 encapsulated springs. It costs £839.99 for a single and £999.99 for a double (September 2026), less than the Natural Evolve in every size. OTTY rates it 8 out of 10 and calls it medium-firm, which makes it the firmer of OTTY’s two natural mattresses.

Construction

The Natural Origin contains no memory foam. The OTTY product page lists a hand-stitched tufted viscose cover with side handles, a needle felt layer, comfort polyester and natural rebound cotton over a pocket spring core, with the same layers repeated in reverse on the underside. OTTY’s specification table names the materials as wool felt, cotton, wool and pocket springs. The side edges are stitched by hand, and because of the natural fillings the mattress arrives flat rather than rolled and compressed.

Layer Material Role, according to OTTY
1 Hand-stitched tufted viscose cover with handles Sleep surface, easier rotation
2 Needle felt Breathable, insulating layer
3 Comfort polyester Moisture wicking
4 Natural rebound cotton Breathable comfort layer
5 Pocket spring core, up to 2,000 springs Main support
6 Layers 1 to 4 repeated in reverse Second sleeping side

Firmness and who it suits

OTTY’s own figures differ slightly. The headline and range menu give 8/10, while the specification table says 7.5. Either way the Natural Origin sits above the 7/10 of the Natural Evolve and the Original Hybrid on OTTY’s scale, where 10 is the firmest, and OTTY lists back and front sleepers as the sleeper types it suits. Side sleepers who need more give at the shoulder are usually better served by the softer foam hybrids in the range. The wool fillings rule it out for anyone who avoids animal-derived materials.

Care, trial and delivery

OTTY asks you to rotate the Natural Origin head to toe once a month for the first 12 months and every three months after that. Its FAQ says the double-sided natural mattresses can be flipped as well as rotated, which spreads the wear across both faces, although the product description asks you to keep the top layer facing up, so confirm with OTTY before you turn it over. Turning a double-sided sprung mattress is a two-person job, although the handles help. OTTY gives no washing instructions for the tufted cover, and OTTY’s returns terms deduct a £40 cleaning fee from the refund if a trial mattress comes back stained, so fit a protector from the first night. The 100-night trial runs from delivery, the guarantee is 10 years, and standard two-person delivery is free.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Natural Origin is the cheaper way into OTTY's handmade natural range, from £839.99 in a single, and suits back and front sleepers who want a firm, traditional 8/10 feel on OTTY's scale. If you sleep on your side or would struggle to turn a double-sided sprung mattress, one of OTTY's hybrids will suit you better.”
