The Soak&Sleep Wool 2000 is a 28cm, turnable, traditionally tufted mattress with two layers of pocket springs under a layer of wool from British flocks, made in the UK and delivered in four to seven weeks. It is sold in medium-firm or firm at the same price, from single to super king.

Construction

According to the Soak&Sleep product page, the spring unit is two layers of individually pocketed springs, badged “2000 Pocket Springs” (the page does not say which size that count refers to). Above it sits what the seller calls a substantial layer of British wool, finished in a viscose damask cover. The mattress is tufted and side-stitched, with 16 side air vents, and it is turnable, so it needs flipping as well as rotating head to foot. Couples who want two separately sprung halves can order the Wool 2000 Zip & Link version, which Soak&Sleep lists as a separate firm-only product from £1,105.

Medium-firm or firm?

Soak&Sleep describes the medium-firm option as “softly supportive” and suited to side sleepers, and the firm (ortho) option as the better fit for back sleepers and anyone who likes a firmer surface. This record covers the medium-firm version. If you have no strong preference, the medium-firm is the evidence-backed choice: in a 90-day randomised trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain, published in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003), medium-firm mattresses beat firm ones on pain in bed and on rising.

What the wool does, and what it does not

Soak&Sleep says the wool regulates temperature and adapts to two different body temperatures in one bed. The independent evidence is thinner. A 2016 sleep-laboratory study by the University of Sydney, co-authored with the Woolmark Company and published as Shin et al. in Nature and Science of Sleep, found that wool sleepwear helped 17 young adults fall asleep faster at 17°C, but found no effect of wool bedding on sleep. Wool is a breathable, comfortable fill; a measurable sleep benefit from wool inside a mattress is not established.

Made in the UK, NBF accredited

Soak&Sleep states the mattress is made in the UK and NBF accredited. National Bed Federation approval means the manufacturer has been audited by SATRA against the NBF Code of Practice, which covers supply-chain checks and compliance with UK flammability and labelling rules.

Prices by size

UK size Dimensions Price (either firmness)
Single 90 x 190cm £525
Small double 120 x 190cm £725
Double 135 x 190cm £725
King 150 x 200cm £825
Super king 180 x 200cm £965

Prices were checked on soakandsleep.com in September 2026; every size was in stock in both firmness options.

Trial and guarantee

The mattress is covered by Soak&Sleep’s 100-night mattress trial (minimum 30 nights, protector required). The technical specification and FAQ give a five-year guarantee, which matches the returns page; one older paragraph on the same product page still says one year. Expect the wool to settle a little in the sleeping areas: Soak&Sleep calls that normal for natural fillings and recommends regular turning to even it out.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Wool 2000 suits couples and side or back sleepers who want a British-made sprung mattress with natural fill and do not mind turning it. It costs more than twice as much as the brand's Cooling Memory Foam Mattress in a double, and the wait of up to seven weeks rules it out if you need a bed this month.”
