The Sleepeezee Jessica 1800 Pocket Gel is a 27 cm, medium-feel hybrid that puts 3 cm of StayCool gel foam and 3 cm of memory foam over a two-tier unit of 1,800 pocket springs. It is made in the UK, carries a 10-year guarantee and, at the time of writing (September 2026), is sold by Mattress Online at a regular £749 in a single and £999 in a double, with the single reduced to £649 in the retailer’s end-of-summer sale.

How the Jessica 1800 is built

The spring system gives the mattress its name. Sleepeezee sets 1,000 SoftTech mini pocket springs near the surface, where they follow the outline of shoulders and hips, over 800 traditional pocket springs that carry most of the load. A foam frame encapsulates the whole unit, so the edge stays firm enough to sit on and the usable width does not shrink towards the sides.

Layer (top to bottom) Material Job
Cover Quilted knitted fabric, hypoallergenic Soft, breathable sleep surface
Upper comfort White fibre support layer Cushions the foam and springs
Memory foam 3 cm Pressure relief at shoulders and hips
StayCool gel 3 cm, open-cell gel foam Lets air move and disperses body heat
Upper springs 1,000 SoftTech mini pocket springs Contouring
Lower springs 800 traditional pocket springs Main support
Edge Full foam encapsulation Edge support for sitting and sleeping

Firmness and who it suits

Mattress Online rates the Jessica 1800 as medium, which we place at 5 on our 10-point scale, although some buyers in the retailer’s own reviews find it closer to medium-firm. Either reading sits in the band the research favours. A systematic review of 24 controlled trials in Sleep Health (Radwan et al., 2015) concluded that mattresses rated medium-firm, along with self-adjusted air beds, gave the best results for sleep comfort, sleep quality and spinal alignment.

Side sleepers and couples get the most from the 6 cm of foam and the independent springs, which limit how much one partner feels the other move. Stomach sleepers and anyone who wants to lie on top of the mattress rather than in it will be better served by the firm Sleepeezee Deluxe 1000 or Ultimate Ortho 2000.

Independent checks, sizes and ownership

Sleepeezee is an approved member of the National Bed Federation, whose Code of Practice has member factories audited by SATRA across ten areas including flammability and textile labelling, and Mattress Online states that the Jessica 1800 conforms to BS 7177 for domestic use, the British Standard for the ignition resistance of mattresses. Mattresses sold in the UK also fall under the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.

UK size Dimensions (cm) Weight Regular price
Single 90 x 190 26 kg £749
Small double 120 x 190 33 kg £999
Double 135 x 190 38 kg £999
King 150 x 200 42 kg £1,149
Super king 180 x 200 50 kg £1,399

The Jessica 1800 is single-sided with turning handles, so care means rotating it head to toe rather than flipping it. Sleepeezee donates £20 to The Children’s Hospital Charity for every Jessica mattress sold. Two points count against it. Mattress Online’s 100-night Comfort Trial is an exchange, not a refund, and only applies if you also buy one of its mattress protectors and sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights first. And at the double price it sits above what most British buyers spend: in a National Bed Federation survey of buyers carried out in November 2021, three quarters had paid under £800. Sleepeezee’s own site now leads with the newer Jessica Performance, while the 1800 remains in stock at Mattress Online.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“We recommend the Jessica 1800 to side sleepers and couples who want 6 cm of foam comfort on a proper two-tier spring unit. If you need a firm surface or a refund-style trial, look elsewhere, because Mattress Online's 100-night trial only allows an exchange.”
