The Silentnight UltraGel 2000 Pocket is a 31cm hybrid mattress that puts a gel-infused UltraGel comfort layer over 2,000 Mirapocket pocket springs, with a medium-soft feel and a price from £659 for a single. It sits in the middle of Silentnight’s UltraGel range, with twice the springs of the UltraGel 1000 Pocket but without the cool-to-touch fabric and mini springs of the Cool-to-touch 3000.

How the UltraGel 2000 is built

The Silentnight product page pairs the UltraGel layer with what the company calls its most breathable foam yet, which it claims is 5 times more breathable than standard memory foam. Each of the 2,000 springs sits in its own pocket, so it responds to the weight directly above it and passes less movement across to a partner than a linked open-coil unit.

Layer, top to bottom What Silentnight uses What it does
Cover Quilted knit fabric Soft sleeping surface
Comfort layer UltraGel gel-infused foam with breathable foam Pressure relief with quick bounce-back
Support 2,000 Mirapocket pocket springs Zoned support, less partner disturbance

Firmness

Silentnight’s headline calls the UltraGel 2000 medium, while the firmness rating on the same page says medium soft, “a little softer than a medium”. We follow the firmness rating and list it as medium-soft, 4 on our 10-point firmness scale. If back pain is your reason for buying, the best evidence points to medium-firm instead: in a 2003 Lancet trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain, medium-firm mattresses beat firm ones on pain in bed and disability after 90 days, and the medium-firm UltraGel 1000 Pocket is the closer match.

Who it suits

The UltraGel 2000 Pocket suits side sleepers and couples who want a softer gel surface that still springs back when they turn, over enough pocket springs to limit roll-together. It is a weaker buy on price: a double costs £859, against £629 for the medium-firm UltraGel 1000 Pocket and £629 for the Memory Pocket 2000, which also has 2,000 springs but uses memory foam.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The UltraGel 2000 Pocket makes sense for side sleepers and couples who want a softer, springier surface than the medium-firm UltraGel 1000, with 1,000 more pocket springs underneath. Buy it for that feel; if back pain is your reason for buying, the medium-firm UltraGel 1000 Pocket is the closer match.”
