The Naturalmat Superb is a 25cm pocket sprung mattress with a natural latex layer, organic wool and an organic cotton and wool cover, handmade in Devon. Naturalmat calls it its most popular mattress, it comes in soft, medium or firm spring tension, and at the time of writing (September 2026) it costs £1,510 in a single and £2,050 in a Naturalmat double (137 x 190cm).

Construction

Naturalmat lists four materials on the Superb product page, with no synthetic foam anywhere in the build.

Component Material What it does
Comfort layer Natural latex from the sap of the Hevea rubber tree Springy, breathable cushioning in place of foam
Spring unit Pocket springs hand-nested in individual cotton pockets Main support, in soft, medium or firm tension
Upholstery Organic wool from local farms Temperature and moisture control
Cover Organic cotton and wool blend with a geraniol finish Passes UK fire rules without chemical retardants, deters dust mites

The fire-safety claim is worth a note. The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 set ignitability tests for the fillings of mattresses sold in the UK, and most makers meet them with flame-retardant chemicals. Naturalmat says its woven cotton and wool cover passes on its own, and it lists compliance with BS 7177 at medium hazard. The anti-mite finish is a plant-derived geraniol treatment that the company describes as OEKO-TEX certified.

Which tension?

Naturalmat says the Superb in medium tension sits in the middle of its firmness guide, and for most people that is the sensible choice. The evidence points the same way: in a randomised, double-blind trial of 313 adults with chronic low back pain, reported in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003), medium-firm mattresses beat firm ones on pain in bed, pain on rising and disability after 90 days. Pick firm tension if you sleep on your front or are heavier than average, soft if you sleep on your side and are light. One reviewer on Naturalmat's own site ordered firm by mistake and exchanged it, which is what the Sleep Promise is for.

Prices by size

Prices below are for a standard one-piece mattress. Zip and link, which splits wider sizes into two halves that zip together, adds £165, and made-to-measure adds £25 to £100 depending on size. Note that the Naturalmat double is 137cm wide, not the 135cm most UK brands use.

Naturalmat size Dimensions (cm) Price at Naturalmat
Small single 75 x 190 £1,510
Single 90 x 190 £1,510
Long single 90 x 200 £1,510
Small double 120 x 190 £2,050
Double 137 x 190 £2,050
King 150 x 200 £2,260
Queen 160 x 200 £2,410
Superking 180 x 200 £2,620
Emperor 200 x 200 £2,970

Buying terms

The Superb carries a 10-year guarantee and free delivery, currently six to seven weeks because each one is made to order. The 45-day Sleep Promise is an exchange, not a refund: if the mattress is wrong within 45 days you can swap to another type or tension, paying a collection and delivery contribution Naturalmat puts at around £75, and made-to-measure mattresses are excluded. Naturalmat sells only direct, through its own showrooms and website, and recommends trying the mattress in a showroom before you order. The company has been a certified B Corp since February 2023, with a B Impact score of 96.3 against the 80 needed to qualify, and it offers to refurbish or recycle its mattresses at the end of their life.

The drawbacks are cost, waiting time and weight. A Naturalmat double costs £2,050, delivery takes six to seven weeks, and a buyer reviewing the Superb on Naturalmat's own product page reports that it needs two people to turn or flip.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Superb suits you if you want a pocket sprung mattress with natural latex instead of foam and are willing to pay for a handmade build with a 10-year guarantee. It is not for tight budgets or anyone who needs a money-back trial, because the 45-day Sleep Promise only swaps the mattress for another one.”
