The Fogarty Dreamy Comfort 1000 is a traditional pocket sprung mattress, handmade in the UK, with 1,000 individually pocketed springs, a 25cm depth and a medium feel that Fogarty recommends for front and back sleepers. It is sold through Dunelm, where it averaged 4.5 stars from 363 reviews on its product page at the time of writing (September 2026), and it carries a 10-year guarantee.

The National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice guide puts typical pocket spring counts at 600-800 up to 2,500, so 1,000 springs is a mid-range count. Each spring works on its own, so a partner’s movement travels less across the bed than on an open coil mattress. Dunelm also states that the mattress is supplied by NBF Approved Members, a scheme under which bed makers are independently audited for compliance with UK regulations on flammability, cleanliness of fillings and genuine product descriptions.

Firmness and who it suits

Fogarty grades the Dreamy Comfort 1000 medium, and we score it 5 out of 10. Research favours the middle of the firmness range for back pain. In a randomised trial of 313 adults with chronic low-back pain published in The Lancet (Kovacs et al., 2003), those given a medium-firm mattress had better outcomes for pain in bed and for disability after 90 days than those given a firm one. With no foam or pillow top, the Dreamy Comfort feels springy and traditional, which suits back and front sleepers; side sleepers may find the shoulder under-cushioned and are better served by a memory foam comfort layer such as the one in the Dunelm Rolled Memory Foam 800.

Care and returns

Because it is dual-sided, the Dreamy Comfort 1000 has to be flipped as well as turned. The Bed Advice care guide recommends alternating rotating and flipping a two-sided mattress each week for the first three months and monthly after that, and the four handles make that manageable. Dunelm’s care instruction for the mattress is to wipe it clean with a damp cloth, and the page links a separate care guide. Dunelm’s returns policy does not accept unwrapped mattresses unless they are faulty, and there is no sleep trial, so the 10-year guarantee is the main protection after purchase.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“The Dreamy Comfort 1000 is our pick for back and front sleepers who want a traditional, flippable sprung mattress made in the UK with a 10-year guarantee. Side sleepers who need deep cushioning at the shoulder should choose a mattress with a pillow top or a foam comfort layer.”
