The Aspire Pocket 1000 Memory Pillowtop is a 30cm hand-tufted mattress that puts a layer of memory foam inside a pillowtop, over 1,000 individually nested pocket springs. It is made in the UK, carries a 5-year warranty and has a medium feel. A 4ft6 double costs £610.

Memory foam in a traditional build

Aspire’s memory foam mattresses are usually rolled hybrids. This one is the exception: a flat, tufted mattress in a woven damask cover, with the memory foam sitting directly under the tufted pillowtop surface. You get the slow, contouring sink of memory foam at the hip and shoulder and the bounce of a pocket unit underneath. According to Aspire’s product page, there are air vents on all four sides to stop moisture building up.

Layer, top to bottom What Aspire uses
Sleep surface Woven damask, hand tufted
Pillowtop Aspire Mem-Tech memory foam over 400gsm recycled fibre
Comfort fibre 800gsm high-loft recycled polyester
Insulators Recycled felt either side of the springs
Spring unit 1,000 individually nested pocket springs
Base 800gsm fibre and woven damask

The pocketed springs keep movement local, which Aspire pitches at couples with a restless partner, and the medium rating suits front, back and side sleepers. Memory foam does hold heat more than wool, so this is a better pick for a cool sleeper than a warm one. The National Bed Federation describes visco-elastic memory foam as responding to individual shape and pressure, which is the feel this layer adds.

Sizes and prices

Size Mattress size (cm) Aspire price
Small single (2ft6) 75 x 190 £400
Single (3ft) 90 x 190 £400
Small double (4ft) 120 x 190 £610
Double (4ft6) 135 x 190 £610
King (5ft) 150 x 200 £720
Super king (6ft) 180 x 200 £960

Prices read on 15 October 2026, with no reduction shown. The jump from king to super king is £240, a bigger step than between the other sizes. For comparison, Aspire’s Cashmere 1000 Pocket Pillowtop uses the same spring count with natural fillings instead of memory foam.

Who should look elsewhere

Front sleepers tend to find a memory foam pillowtop too soft under the hips, and anyone who already wakes up warm will notice the foam more than the springs. For them, Aspire’s firmer flat-topped pocket mattresses or the cooling Climate Cool range are the better place to start. If you change position a lot, the slow response of memory foam can also feel like it holds you in place for a moment.

Warranty and returns

The 5-year warranty is pro rata after year one, set out on Aspire’s guarantee page as a contribution of 20% of the retail price in year two up to 70% in year five. There is no trial; a mattress with a broken hygiene seal is excluded from the 14-day cancellation right unless faulty. Rotate it regularly, since a pillowtop cannot be turned over.

Our verdict

Conclusion
“Choose it if you like the hug of memory foam but want it on proper pocket springs in a traditional tufted mattress rather than a box. Warm sleepers should pick a natural-filled pillowtop instead.”
