Naturalmat Bovey Topper reviewed

The Naturalmat Bovey is a 6cm mattress topper with a natural latex core wrapped in organic wool, and it is the firmest topper Naturalmat makes. It is built to add support to a mattress that has become too soft, and at the time of writing (September 2026) it costs £720 in a single and £900 in a Naturalmat double (137 x 190cm).

Construction

Each Bovey is handmade to order in Naturalmat’s Devon workshop. The Bovey product page lists three components, sewn and tape-edged like a mattress.

Naturalmat states compliance with BS 7177:2008 + A1:2011 at medium hazard and with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. It does not publish a latex density, whether the core is Dunlop or Talalay, or a certificate for the latex itself.

How firm it is and who it suits

Naturalmat says the Bovey’s latex core “sits at the firmer end of our range”, flexible enough to add comfort but firm enough to give extra support where you need it. No firmness grade is published, so our medium-firm 7/10 rating is an estimate from the build. That makes the Bovey a support topper rather than a softening one. It suits back sleepers and heavier sleepers on a mattress that now feels too soft, and it is the wrong pick if your mattress already presses on your shoulder and hip.

The National Bed Federation’s consumer site Bed Advice UK draws the same line: a soft topper adds cushioning and pressure relief, while “a firmer one can give extra support to a too-soft bed”. It also warns that a topper laid over deep dips will mould to those same dips, so the Bovey can firm up a soft mattress but cannot level a sagging one.

How it compares with the other Naturalmat latex toppers

Firmness figures are our assessment from the materials, since Naturalmat does not grade its toppers. At the same 6cm depth, the Bovey costs about £140 more than the Terrific in a double, and what the difference buys is the firmer latex.

Buying terms

Delivery is free and takes three to five working days by courier. The Naturalmat guarantee covers adult toppers for 2 years, against 10 years for its mattresses, and does not cover natural dipping where the fibres compress, so Naturalmat asks you to flip and turn a topper every three months. The Bovey has no sleep trial: Naturalmat’s 45-day Sleep Promise excludes all toppers, and its standard returns policy allows a return or exchange within 14 days of delivery, with return postage paid by you unless the topper is faulty or damaged.
