Dream Team Ashbourne 2000 Pocket Wool Mattress im Test

The Dream Team Ashbourne 2000 is a 25cm soft, double-sided pocket sprung mattress with certified British wool on both sides, made in the UK for the Dream Team range that Dreams sells only in its own stores and online. It is the softest Dream Team model we rank and the one we point side sleepers to first.

Construction

The layers are mirrored around the spring unit, which is what makes the Ashbourne double-sided. Wool earns its place in a mattress. The National Bed Federation’s Bed Advice UK guide describes it as a “naturally resilient fibre, creating a luxurious feel with good fire retardancy properties”, and adds that wool is breathable. Dreams says the wool keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, and that the whole mattress is recyclable.

Dreams grades the comfort as soft, 3 on our scale. A soft surface lets the shoulder and hip sink in when you lie on your side, which keeps the spine straighter, but it gives front sleepers and heavier back sleepers too little resistance. For them the very firm Dream Team Fakenham or the medium Lynmouth suit better.

Turn the Ashbourne and rotate it head to toe weekly for the first three months, then monthly. A double weighs 36kg, so turning it is a job for two people.
