The Aspire 7000 Pocket Wool Cashmere and Silk is a dual-sided, hand-tufted pocket sprung mattress with natural fillings on both faces, priced at £949 for a 4ft6 double. Because it can be flipped as well as rotated, it is built for people who plan to keep a mattress for many years and do not mind turning it.

Where the 7,000 springs come from

The headline figure adds up three layers. Aspire’s product page lists 1,000 nested 18cm pocket springs in the core, which carry your weight, plus 3,000 micro tablet springs on each side, 6,000 in all. The micro springs give each sleep surface its own responsive layer, so the mattress feels the same whichever way up it lies. Over them, on both faces, sit layers of wool, cashmere and silk, hand tufted through the mattress so they cannot drift. Aspire rates it medium-firm.

Living with a dual-sided mattress

Aspire’s case for the design is that natural fillings settle under your body over time. Flipping lets the other face take the load while the first recovers, which slows the dips that form in a one-sided mattress. The price is effort. A king or super king this well filled is a two-person job to turn, and Aspire’s page gives no turning schedule, so pick a routine you will remember, such as turning it whenever the seasons change.

Returns and guarantee

At this price the terms matter more. There is no sleep trial, and Aspire’s returns policy takes away the 14-day right to cancel once a mattress’s hygiene seal is broken. The 5-year guarantee is pro rata after the first year, so a fault in year three means paying 40% of the then retail price for a replacement.
