Dream Team Fakenham 1000 Pocket Ortho Mattress im Test

The Dream Team Fakenham 1000 Pocket Ortho is a 22cm very firm, double-sided pocket sprung mattress that Dreams tags as orthopaedic. It is made in the UK for the Dream Team range, and with 1,285 reviews averaging 4.7 out of 5 in October 2026 it is one of the most reviewed mattresses Dreams sells.

Construction

Dreams says the Fakenham replaces the Reynolds, one of its bestselling mattresses, with more springs and a cover that is now fully antimicrobial and anti-odour. There is no foam or memory foam, so the feel comes from the springs and tightly packed polyester. Dreams grades the comfort very firm, which we score 9 out of 10.

How firm is right for a bad back?

In mattress retail “orthopaedic” describes a firm build rather than a medical certification, and the best trial evidence points to medium-firm rather than very firm. In a 2003 study in The Lancet, Kovacs and colleagues gave 313 adults with chronic low-back pain either a firm or a medium-firm mattress, and after 90 days the medium-firm group reported less pain in bed, less pain on rising and less disability. The Fakenham therefore suits back and front sleepers who already know they sleep better on a hard surface, and heavier sleepers who sink through softer mattresses. Side sleepers usually find it too hard on the shoulder.
